So I have a very odd and annoying issue. Today I was trying to call microsoft and activate my windows on my new pc (I had to reinstall it and this time it did not activate for some reason) and they gave me the long runaround that they could not activate it without my product key (which they have done for me plenty of times before and I am extremely frustrated they didn't this time) and long story short I tried to reinstall it to get it activated maybe.

Anywho I changed the boot order in my bios and went to go to reinstalling. Something must have happened to my boot drive as it prompted me with it was missing a file.

Anywho I wanted to go and boot back into windows and create a new boot drive. Now my pc will not boot. At all. the motherboard goes through the normal protocal (according to the numbers displayed on the temp readout out the board) but the bios or windows boot logo does not pop up. My monitor does not even kick out of hibernating??

I am currently running my hdmi to my monitor through my gpus but there is no other display port on the mobo aside from a display port and I have no access to anything with a display port to see if this is a gpu issue or mobo issue. My keyboard and mouse light up so they are getting power but nothing else happens. I have cleared the cmos to reset the boot order and still no luck. Help!

Solution

Sometimes when you do a cmos reset and the mobo have its own video out options (VGA, HDMI, Display Port, DVI) It can set the settings to use that video out option instead of your dedicated GPU's.

If you do not actually own any of those options I gave, you can go to monoprice and get them for a really cheap price. Cables can go for as low as 5 bucks.

well if you change the order of your boot drive than that is why it was telling you that is was missing.

Did you try to put back the drive that you installed windows on as your primary boot drive?

I am sorry I guess my description was confusing. While in the windows installment, it prompted me that my boot drive was missing a file. Thus i tried to restart into my bios, change boot order back to main boot ssd, then create a new boot drive. But now the pc will not even boot into bios. Or will not even take my monitor out of hibernation. So I assume it has something to do with the gpus not sending a signal but with my only access of display is hdmi I am stuck.

if you did the cmos reset and as you state and the mobo has only a display port, it is possible that in the motherboard setting, the display that is using is the one one the motherboard. So you possibly might need to get either a display port cable to go to your monitor. If you do not have a display port on your monitor, than you would need either a display port dongle that goes to DVI to your monitor. If your monitor does not have a DVI connection. Than you would need a display port dongle to VGA and than VGA to your monitor.

I setup this whole pc on the same display using hdmi initially. I assume I can try these options but I am extremely confused as to why all the sudden it will not work.
