I was running a Asus ROG B450 gaming-F, ryzen 5 2600, and a gtx 1060 3gb and a antec 850w. I bought a 1660ti, so I swapped the 1060 with the 1660ti. The 1060 has a 6 pin connector and the 1660ti has a 6+2 pin. I plugged the 6 and 2 pin connectors, powered on the PC only to get this message: " Power down and connect PcIE connector... " . Should this not be plug and play?

same problem here, upgraded from a 970 to a 2060, 970 has a 4 plug and 8plug, 2060 only has a 8 plug. Put in the 2060 plug in the 8 plug and get that message. Tried everything. Reinstalled the 970 with both plugs and it works, 2060 I get that message.

My apologies, I am using extension cables for the Pcie 8 pin's and although I plugged in the 8 pins into the gpu, the extension cable did not have all 8 pins plugged in. @rgd1101 thanks for your comment. @bond16th sometimes its the simplest things that you overlook, the things you would never think you would overlook. By the way, is your psu large enough to power a 2070?

@SalC 1000w I hope so, Question, is it possible that my system is looking for my old card, and knows that the 6 pin is not plugged in, maybe remove the unused plug from the power supply?

Is it possible that changing where the 8pin plugs into the modular PSU, could have a effect?

It just seems weird that I reinstalled my old card (970) with the 8pin and 6 pin and it works, install the new 2060, with just the 8 pin and no go.

I doubt that it is the motherboard looking for the old gpu. As for the unused wire.. I dont think that would make the difference, but then again, you never know, and there is no harm in trying.
is the 8 plug that you are using a 6+2? Also is your PSU fully modular or semi-mod?

@SalC its a full 8 pin, fully modular, every plug comes out.

I'm trying everything before I RMA the GPU, considering my old 970 works like charm.

Also, if I plug in my HDMI to my motherboard and boot with the 2060 installed the system boots and windows in the device manager says it detected problems and shut it down.

@SalC fixed it for future reference to anyone having this similar issue. Modulars psu, come with adaptors that go from 6 pin to 8 pin to the power supply. I didn't realize in the back of the power supply it was there. so I only had 6 pins going to the 2060.....
