Looking for a microATX Board - I havnt built a new system for some years so I want a bullit proof board, probably with dual bios?? so that if I mess things up I can recover from my mistakes! Will be used with a GTX 1060 for gaming etc - as is usual, reading 20 reviews of boards gives 20 different recommendations - HELP!

No drama, highest compatibility, excellent BIOS, almost every feature possible so if you say "oh crap i didn't check for this" later on it's probably got it: Asus Crosshair Hero VII. But that's probably overkill.

mATX: MSI B450M Mortar; also great Asrock B450M Pro4,

Great ATX: MSI B450 Tomahawk, also great Asus ROG Strix B450 Gaming
You will get a lot more suggestions as there are quite a few good motherboards that become excellent when you focus on a favored feature.

Dual BIOS is sort a rarity anymore, and with alot of the new BIOS updating tools they include not really a necessity cause it's hard to screw it up. I think Gigabyte has some Dual BIOS.

I would get something like the ASRock B450M PRO4 (includes a type C) or ASUS PRIME B450M-A. Both are roughly 80 USD. You can even pick up an older gen 1 Ryzen B350 or X370 motherboard (which alot ship with updated BIOS already) and use them. They perform exactly the same and if you do need to update the BIOS Ryzen has a kit you can send for that includes a cheap CPU.

IDIOT PROOF? Want to put it together with no dramas or bios updates

small question, no amd crossfire?

if yes to no amd crossfire, Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3

if you want amd crossfire, Biostar B350GT3

the only difference is the crossfire, i personaly would choose the Gigabyte GA-AB350M-Gaming 3

Was thinking as I want a Ryzen 2 then I should maybe go for a newer chipset? Would hate to buy an older board for it to require a bios update to recognise the new chip - that would be a bad day...

Many of the B350 and X370 boards will come with Ryzen 2 support already, unless you get unliky and get older stock from the seller.

If you want to avoid this then get a B450 or X470 board. I listed two good 80 USD B450 boards, the ASRock B450M PRO4 (includes a type C) or ASUS PRIME B450M-A.

If you are going to be doing heavier over-clocks, SLI (which is pointless IMO), more sata ports and a few other little things then a X470 board would be a better option but at a higher cost.
