Hello everyone. First poster here. I've been reading some articles on this site and it is very informative. At the same time, a little overwhelming.

I'm looking to build my first desktop computer. I've been reading and watching some videos on putting the different parts together and it doesn't seem too difficult. I'm an electrical engineer, so I can follow some instructions. We're looking to spend $600-700 (maybe a little more if necessary) on everything other than OS, keyboard, mouse and speakers. The main purpose of the desktop is for general use such as internet surfing and some multi-tasking capabilities would be great. I can't think of a program that we use often that would require a large amount of computer resource. There is one thing. I don't usually play video games anymore, and I do have an XBOX360 that I hardly touch. But I would like to be able to play some PC games if I choose. The main game that I would really have to have is Diablo 3 if/when it ever comes out. So I would like to atleast be able to play D3 at medium setting. One of the main priority is to have dual screens per wife's request.

Approximate Purchase Date: This week. No later than next week.

Budget Range: $600-700 (maybe a little more if necessary) after rebates

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Internet surfing, multi-tasking and gaming are tied as 2nd.

Parts Not Required: OS, keyboard, mouse, speakers.

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: No preference. There's also a Frys not to far from me.

Country of Origin: USA

Parts Preferences: Atleast 18" dual widescreen monitors

Overclocking: Maybe

Monitor Resolution: I'm not too familiar as far as what resolution to have since I'm open as far as screen size. I guess what ever the natural resolution of the screen would be fine.

I was checking out Lunyone's build found below since it's in my price range. How is this rig for multi-tasking?

I found a similar article that I replied to while doing price surfing on newegg (the prices are similar to fry's and don't forget that fry's has this deal where if you can find cheaper prices they'll pricematch it)...I came up with this list:

PSU-Rosewill RG630-S12 630W $60
Motherboard-GIGABYTE GA-880GM-D2H AM3 $80
RAM-Patriot Gamer 2 Series 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 $25
CPU-AMD Phenom II X4 840 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket $100
Case-Thermaltake V3 Black Edition $40
Graphics-PNY XLR8 VCGGTX4601XPB-OC GeForce GTX 460 $150
HD-Seagate Barracuda ST500DM002 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s $40
SAMSUNG CD/DVD Burner Black SATA $20

All this came to a total of $515...I'm sure that it'd be better to go to Fry's since you can find spontaneous good deals there (like the motherboard I listed here is $75 instead of $80 and the same case is $35 instead of $40). Just be aware of the open-boxed items. And as for the monitors, you're going to be spending around $250 (Frys is selling 20" LG monitors for $130 each).
Good luck with the hunting!

Brandon you are breaking the rules of this messageboard , and like the threads you have started this one will be closed by the moderators .
I did check out your site though , and your builds are 1/ not that great
2/ Id say there's a 99% chance that you are not supplying legit windows licenses

Thank you for the reply. I will think about this build. With the 2 monitors, this will total to about 750-800 before tax which is pushed my limit but still reachable. I didn't know that Fry's matched online sales. I thought they just price match local sales.

What does everyone else think about this build?

Yes, the last time I went into Fry's, the person at the entrance was handing out flyers pertaining to the price match policy. After reading the policy, I noticed that the catch was they'll match the price INCLUDING shipping charges. Fortunately, a lot of the items listed (CPU/RAM/GPU/CD burner) on Newegg have free shipping so it will probably help!
Here's a link to Fry's policy if you want to look at it yourself: http://www.frys.com/onlineads/0001507075

Nice! Thank you, esteban 318.

As mentioned before, I don't play games often but I would like to have that option when needed. So it wouldn't be so hard if I don't get a GPU right now. How's the capability of the onboard video of the motherboard? Would it be able to handle dual screen 19+", internet surfing and youtube videos?
