Hey I've finally turned 18 and managed to convince my dad im capable of building my own PC! So without further a do I present you with the components -

DDR3 1600MHz 8GB Corsair Vengeance Blue Heat Spreader (2x4GB)
Intel Core i5 3470S 2.90GHz Socket 1155 6MB L3 Cache
Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H Socket 1155 VGA DVI HDMI 7.1 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
Gigabyte GTX 650 Ti 2GB GDDR5 5400MHz Dual DVI 1x HDMI PCI-E Graphics Card
Corsair TXM 650W Modular PSU
LiteOn 4x BD-ROM SATA Blu-Ray Drive - OEM Black
Seagate 1TB Barracuda 3.5" SATA-III Hard Drive - 7200RPM 64MB Cache

I ask two questions, first will this all be compatible and two will I be able to run windows 8 or are my components windows 7 only? Thanks guys

You won't need the Z77 motherboard since you are not overclocking. You can save a lot of money with a H77 motherboard instead.

In regards to you CPU choice, since you chose an S model, I assume you want to be saving power. You can save a bit of money by getting the i5-3350P instead, which is slightly lower performance, but not noticeable outside benchmarks.

Your PSU is a bit much for your system, you can do 500W and have more than you need.

Other than that it looks fine.

Oh thats great news with the H77! Thanks for that!

I forgot to mention I am planning on having 5 fans running in my case, how much will they affect the power thats why I have gone for a 600W power supply. Thanks.

Let`s not disappoint you dad !
Double check you CPU have FAN or you can add one instead of BOX stock one - choose silent one
Add CASE to fit all that - take one with 1x front and 1x back system fans
Add 2-d storage drive - f.e. 500 Gb SATA 3 or 128 Gb SSD for OS - you system will have more performance especially with SSD.

And Yes and Yes !
BTW if you`r Win 7 support than you 99% can have Win 8 too.

Yeah Ive already got a BitFenix Shinobi case on its way, so that will be able to house everything.
Thanks for the pointer about the CPU fan ill have a look for a better and quieter one now

If your not overclocking you can save money using a H77 or a B75 for that mater. Just decide what features you want like SATA 3 and how many, USB 3.0 and how many and pick the board that best matches what you want. Don't regret getting the motherboard that would have better fit your wants/needs over a few bucks. You want to smile every time you sit down at your computer not wonder "what if". We're real close to the release of the Haswell which is coming out in June. You may want to wait and see what fits your budget from the new line. Prices may drop on the LGA 1155 models of Motherboards & CPUs too. If your not over clocking a stock CPU fan will work fine I've not had any issues on any of the Ivy Bridge systems with them. Just get a regular version of the CPU, you don't really save any money on P, S or T versions. 650w PS is pretty large for your build I think 450w to a 550w should be good. If you got a really good deal on the 650w go for it. Adding extra fans will make your case louder and may reduce the enjoyment of the system. Try to use larger fans like the 12CM they turn slower and move lots of air and are quieter.

Ahh that clears up quite a lot of my answers thanks man! My case comes with 2 USB 3.0's so I need a motherboard compatible with them (Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm not sure how that bit works) thanks.

The USB 3.0 port for your case won't work on a Motherboard with just USB 2.0 ports on it without a USB 3.0 to USB 2.0 converter. The USB 3.0 Port is one large block and the USB 2.0 port is 2 small plugs. So if your ordering a motherboard be sure it has some USB 3.0 headers you can tap to hook-up the USB 3.0 ports on your case.
