My computer has

Mobo : Intel DG33FB
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4 GHz
RAM: 2 Gib
Graphics Card: XFX 9800 GT

2x 7200 RPM Hard Disks
2x Sata DVD RW Drives

I had a power supply but i think it does not give enough amperes

So i am looking to buy a new PSU

I AM NOT UPGRADING THIS COMPUTER IN FUTURE

I have two PSUs in my mind

Tagan 500W Modular Power Supply BZ50

Cooler Master Silent Pro M500 500W PSU

Is it a good choice(especially the Cooler Master??)

Or do i need > 500 W??

You won't need more than 500W, but that would be cutting it thin. Some people prefer to keep some headroom, but you say you don't want to upgrade, so I guess 500W is perfect for you. I would recommend the Cooler Master Silent Pro, out of those two. It would work perfectly.

I can go for a Cooler Master M600. Actually i had a power supply which was 600W but not from a great manufacturer.

I was running 8800 GT+Q6600 fine on it.

One day my card failed and i got it replaced by 9800 GT and the card does not give display(The fan on card runs). Not even BIOS is seen

I confirmed that the card works by using it in my friend's machine

So this time i am not wasting money on a PSU.

Please suggest a PSU WITH sufficient headroom

The general rule of thumb is a high quality 500 to 550 watt power supply with sufficient current (amps) on the +12 volt rail(s) can easily power a system with any single video card made.

A high quality 500 to 550 watt psu will have a +12 volt rail rated at 40 amps.

In addition the power supply should be at least 80+ Bronze certified for energy efficiency. There are some models available which have achieved 80+ Silver and 80+ Gold Certifications.

Corsair and Seasonic are two of the brands that have a reputation for high quality power supplies that consistently earn high marks in technical reviews. They are reliable, stable, and come with a 5 year warranty. Some of the newer models come with a 7 year warranty. Lately we've been seeing a few other brands offering some high quality units. One example would be the Antec Earthwatts series which is a major improvement over Antec’s older psu’s like the Basiq models.

I dont think corsair makes a VX 500? The corsair 450vx would be an excellent choice however.

You could also run it with the cheaper corsair 400cx if you wanted to save money. (but its less efficient).

I would not recommend coolermaster and dont know much about Tagan. Anything from Seasonic, Antec, or Corsair would be good.

Corsair VX550 or Antec EA-500 (latter saves ya 415 and rebate hassle but both great PSu's)

Antec gets a 9.5 performance rating for $70
