Sapphire 9800 Pro just arrived from Newegg and I was wondering how many ns is the memory, this is what is says on the chips:
Hynyx KOR
HY5DU283222A
F-28 408A
W7CD5568KQ

Are these considered better, average or worse than what you usually get?


Abit IS7 @ 275 FSB, VAGP @ 1.65, OCZ PC4200 RAM @ 550Mhz, P4 2.4 @ 3.3Ghz Vcore @ 1.625, GeXCube Radeon 9600P @ 450/626.
Thermalright SLK-947U, P3 HS @ NB.
 
just search that serial number on hynix's site. Hynix generally doesn't overclock well beyond what it's rated for.

its touch and go.. youll have to experiment.. i think Samsung is better, but im no expert on the ram chips that 9800s have .. there was a site that listed them all, if someone here remembers what it is, itd be cool if you could post it

Speaking of Hynix.. I ate lunch with the vice president of Hynix when I wen't to Comdex in Vegas a while ago.

Well... I stood in line with him, and sat near him and looked at him and his cool name tag that said Vice President Hynix somthin. lol.

Me: are you saying I can't provide?
Me: cause I know I can provide.
Me: oh and I can provide money too😉

Yeah seriously. Comdex was cool:) I talked with a guy at the nVidia booth though and he was a TOTAL idiot! Didn't know half the [-peep-] most people on this board know.

I ALMOST entered the World's Fastest Geek competition (or something along those lines, it's created/hosted by some computer magazine), in which like 4 'geeks' at a time put together a PC (not quite from scratch), and the one with the fastest time wins. I didn't do it cause I was scared... lots of people/cameras, I thought i'd jam the screwdriver through the mobo or something lol.

Looking back I should have done it. I probably would have done quite well, may even have won.

I also went to an nVidia booth at some hotel after Comdex. It was larger than their comdex booth. I got to play ut2k4 before ANY of you did! And I have pictures to prove it!

They had a really nice setup, and had some quadros running too. There the people weren't quite as dumb. This one guy was pretty smart. I asked him when their socket 939 mobos would come out, and he gave me some estimate. But at least he knew what I was talking about!


Oh yeah... and I was THIISSSSS freaking close to renaming dawn.exe to quake3.exe on the sys. hooked up to one of the larger overhead monitors and starting it and leaving (nude dawn baby!). THISSS close. But I pussed out, there were lots of reps around and of course, some 16 yr. old kid hanging out must just want to play games and dosn't know [-peep-] and could mess up their systems, so they watched me pretty closely. I was playing ut2k4 on a 5700 equipped laptop and some guy came up and was like how does it play? (like, lets get this avg. gamers input! ya! lol). I was like "pretty good" (bullshitting him to get him to go away).

Lol.

I also went to... damn I forget the name, I have the pictures on my moms computer.. but it was some Canadian tech. show. Much smaller than Comdex, but they had some cool stuff. They had the ORGIGINAL UT running on some laptop, that I played. Heh. Canadians...

and LOLERS about the nVidia booth. doesnt suprise me one bit.. he was probably part of the marketing/PR department, which is obviously the most funded part of that company 😉

i can put a case together in like , 10 minutes if im messing around.. you shoulda done it heh

hmm to the thread author , if your even gonig to read this again: try overclocking and let us know how it goes, may help some others out here hwo have 9800's

BTW, I believe the winner was like 6 minutes 48 seconds or something. But like I said, it's not quite from scratch.

The psu is in the case (not screwed in), the cpu is on the mother board, the mobo is in the case (not scrwed in). Ram is not in the mobo, neither is vid card. Drives are not in. No cables hooked up. Must hook everything up and have EVERY screw in neccessary (which they define). Then you boot it up. First to be in windowz, wins. Then they check and make sure it's all good.

do you have to have like, plastic washers on all the screws and sh1t too? cause i never do that 😀


damn i could build a system if the CPU is already in the socket and stuff like that.. ram takes 3 seconds to put in , its just *pop, pop, push, push* and thats it

not like youd have to be gentle, its their equipment heh

It ran well for a laptop, and fairly well in general. I'm used to 9800 1337ness, remember. I believe the laptop was a 2.6ghz p4, 512mb ram (dunno speed).

I think I played at 1024x768 and maxed out the details, turned off AA/AF, did some basic .ini tweaking, and it ran OK.

And no, about the plastic washer things. That'd be funny to snap their ram sticks in half! I wonder what they'd do...
