Hi, I'm looking to build a nas/plex server and I would like to know if an i5 6500 would be powerful enough to do 1-2 streams transcoding. I'd only be playing it at 1080p at the most. The case I want to use doesn't have enough space to fit a gpu so I'd be using its built in graphics.

If you're going to use on-board GPU, go with Ryzen APU instead, e.g R5 2400G since it has Vega 11 graphics, which is considerably better than Intel HD 530 in i5-6500. Also, R5 2400G (Vega 11) and R3 2200G (Vega 8) are much cheaper than i5-6500. Few comparisons as well:

Thanks, the only reason I was thinking intel was beacause their chips have quick sync, but I am all new to building a pc and I don't know howm much of a difference it would make. Do amd chips have hardware transcoding?
