Does anyone have any feedback on this new burner?

I have an older Plextor 8X4X32X that I was thinking of upgrading. It works fine, just want something faster.

My only concern is how long it will take people like Nero and Roxio to come up with stable software which can use it. I've got the Plextor 2410TA, and even the latest versions of DirectCD and InCD are problemtical. In future, I'll stick with something a bit behind the cutting edge.

if you look at the specs of this drive, you notice that you can only burn data at 40x but audio files are capped at 24x. So its not a really 40x burner you see. Plextor drives are good, but why spend $50+ more on a plextor when you can get cheaper once that also have buffer underruns killer.

Thanks for the info, but I picked up the 40x12x40A this weekend. I paid $165, which is cheap considering I paid over $400 for my HP 7200i 2X2X6X back in late 1997.

As for the 24X, yeah that's for audio ripping, but I do more than that. As for the buffer underrun, it has burnproof II technology so that shouldn't be an issue. Only once I burned a coaster, it was with my Plextor 8X4X32 without buffer underrun, and that was when I hit the eject button on my Zip drive while burning in Nero. Never realized ejecting a Zip disk used up so much resources.

Thanks again for your input. I'll let you know how well it runs.
