Hello All!

I need some help in deciding which motherboard to purchase.

I'm building a budget gaming rig and im going with an Intel 4300 and do plan on over clocking her. I want a quality board that will easily let me OC to 3.0ghz.

I would like a mobo that will allow lots of room for future upgrades (maybe a quadcore and raid options).

I need SLI as well. Im really looking for a quality board, something that will last me for a good while. So anything you guys could recommend would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advanced.

ok... they asus formula isnt really a budget board. If you want budget than go with the P35 chipset. It's super overlockable.

EVGA has a inexpensive 680i board if you really want to keep the SLI ability

WEll I really dont like any of them. I would go with the 780i board but you'll spend a bit more just because it's new. If I were going to get a 680i board I would get something cheap so that I could have moneyt to upgrade soon. The 780i board supports future intel procs coming this year.

holy cow, those 780 boards are expensive. especially considering the only upgrading you can do is to a slightly faster penryn. the next gen (core 3 duo :) ) will use a different socket. I say get a nice 650/680 board for the sli, although I don't recommend sli in general. p35 board for no sli. gigabyte p35-ds3l would be my recommendation for a p35.

You think this mobo is pricey just wait till the 790i using DDR3 comes out in 1st Q.

and I think they are ESA compatible! lol

Still way to pricey for me so Ive put that mobo on the on the backburner along with the 6650 45nm cpu lol

The new Intel 45nm processers don't offer any more performance that the Q6600 G0 stepping. I think Intel's 45nm processers are useless for gaming no matter how far an OC you get.

You're going a bit far saying they're useless for gaming. They will be slightly better than IPC than Conroe (i think it's something like 5%) and will overclock better if they get rid of the FSB roof that currently plagues the chips.

Exactly my point! Your not going to get 30 FPS more by going 45nm, games just don't rely on Quads too much yet. At even 10% better still not worth the $1000, put your money in the GPU and get a fast duel or Q6600 and OC it to 3.2GHz.

MSI 650i Platinum overclocks good and supports SLI. It's fairly cheap too.

well like I said, It would be for future upgrades. Im not going to buy a 45nm any time soon. Im gonna pick up a 4300 and OC that. But in 2-4 years when the 45nm arent so crazy pricey, I want to be able to pick one up. Hence the request for upgrade options 🙂
