So as the title says, I plugged the CPU fan into the cha socket for a bit. I had no video output (monitor had no input) and after some research here I read that sometimes you just need to unplug and hold down the power button for a while to discharge capacitors(?).

This worked in that I got a video signal to my monitor finally but it said cpu fan error press f1 to enter setup.

I entered setup and changed the bios settings to my liking and then restarted. Same thing...cpu fan error. This is when I realized what I had done and switched the CPU fan plug to the proper socket.

However now, there is no video once again. Computer acts like it boots (fans spinning, etc) but I can't get any video.

Here's what I've tried:
Unplugging and replugging the CPU connector and the 24 pin connector.
Switching cpu fan back to cha fan.
Reseating ram.
Resetting CMOS.

I have GPUs plugged into the PSU but not into the motherboard, and their fans start up when I press the power button as well.

Did I manage to fry my CPU somehow? Anyone have any ideas on this?

You aren't gonna get video if the GPUs are only plugged in power wise, they need to be in the PCIe slot to get video. Just put everything the way it was before you had this problem. And it will give you a CPU fan problem if there is nothing plugged into it, which is normal.

I know i can't get video with a gpu unplugged, that's why I had onboard graphics turned on and an HDMI cable going from my monitor to my motherboard. All my other rigs have booted fine with powered GPUs that weren't plugged in.

And perhaps I didn't mention previously but I already tried putting it back the way it was and it didn't fix anything.

I'm gonna give it another go today, maybe try a different CPU, but if you've got other suggestions I'm all ears

And I believe it gave me a cpu fan error because the the chassis fan socket doesn't vary speed based on cpu temp, as the fan was running, though that's speculation on my part
