I opened up my old computer to grab an old HDD with a crap ton of movies on it (probably from the pirate Bay). It crashed my computer. It booted up with a "automatic repair" thing happening, and it couldn't fix it. The old computer died, and my friends think it was because of viruses along with the torrent. Any idea how to fix this / get movies off of the hard drive? And maybe what happened in general?

Solution

Yes, there were almost certainly viruses included with that stuff you pirated.
The contents of that drive, and whatever PC you connected it to...are now hosed up.

A "fix" for this would be a full wipe and reinstall.
