Plugging in front panel I/O (USB and Audio) Freezes Whole System

So just built a system and having an issue where occasionally plugging in any devices in the usb or audio jack will lock up my computer and force my to do a hard reset. Tested in bios as well and it locks up. Thought at first it might be a grounding issue so I took out the mobo and test up a test bed on a cardboard box and the same thing happened. Next I thought it might be an issue with my case front panel i/o and I happen to have two of the same case so tried it with my other cases front panel headers and same thing happened. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Specs are listed here: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2BQXJ

Bios is up to date and I did a clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit with all of the latest drivers installed.

Thanks. Although my computer freezes up when I plug in anything into the headphone and microphone jack I'll give that a shot and report back.

Nada. Still getting freezing when I plug in usb or audio even within bios =(

Is this happening only on your front panel or do you have same in the back panel of your mobo?
You can try disabling Legacy USB storage / USB Storage Function on the BIOS settings, this could help you sometimes. You will find it under peripherals section

K I'll give that a shot as well and yes it is only with front panel audio and usb. All rear I/O work just fine.

Appears to have helped but now can't get into bios without clearing cmos. I will have to try a few more times to confirm but will update when I get back from work.

=( still getting freezing. It almost seems like a grounding problem. I don't want to rule out the case but I did try it with both of my cases which are identical so unless both of them have the same problem they shouldn't be the cause. Any other ideas. Thanks for the suggestions so far by the way!

Haha no that was my mistake. I thought I had ruled out the case because both cases did the same thing. Another interesting thing I discovered was that even when the front panel audio cable was unplugged and I tried plugging in headphones the system would still lock up. Upon looking at the front panel i/o it appears that the audio and front panel headers (reset, power switch, hdd led, and pwr led) are on the same pcb. Think this is definitely a grounding issue?

Sweet. Now we have something to work on. The part of the case that houses the i/o is made entirely out of plastic and there doesn't appear to be a ground wire going to a piece of metal on the case. I'd assume typically the grounds going from the front i/o headers to the mobo should ground everything fine but for whatever reason they aren't in my case. I should be fine grounding both sides of the i/o by just putting a piece of copper wire under a screw on the i/o pcb and attaching it to a screw on the metal part of the case?

So grounding helped a lot and I am getting a lot LESS freezes. Key word less. It was still happening but a lot less frequently. I then unplugged the audio cable but left my ground and haven't had a freeze since. I'm just gonna have to live without front panel mic and headphone but I'm fine with that. Will update if the problem arises in the future!
