Plugging in monitor for a test boot?

He plugs his monitor into the GPU, as my monitor doesn't use a USB it uses the slot like the one under (The one where you have to screw two things in on each side)

That will still go into the GPU right? Is there a difference between the left and the right one or are they both the same?

His monitor uses a HDMI connection not USB.

if you listen to the video, he mentioned hdmi. we have a few of those video out. we have, the old d-sub (or vga), dvi (we have a few types of these as well), hdmi, and displayport

Okay well we need to know which GPU and or motherboard you are buying.

The ports on the video and the cable you have are different and won't work together.

I got the sapphire radeon 290 and the MSI z97 pc mate

Okay then the 290 doesn't have a VGA output. VGA is an old standard so try to upgrade to a HDMI lead/monitor if possible.

You'll need a HDMI to VGA adapter which can be found online. Make sure they have good reviews because there are some that won't work floating around.

I don't know if that could handle gaming rates or resolutions.

Try looking for a slightly more expensive one.

You will not get the most out of your card until you get a HDMI monitor.
