As it says in the title what is better: PNY geforce gtx 660 ti 2GB or HIS Radeon 7870 2GB? It will be paired with a Intel i5-3470 3.2 GHZ. The 660 TI is 40 Dollars more so is it worth it?

Also, the Radeon 7870 comes with a free copy of Sleeping Dogs. Also, would there be a better graphics card in this price range? Thanks!

You could look at the 7870 le, it just came out. I would go with the 7870 or 7870 le, as they can overclock way better, and both are basically the same performance as a 660ti, and both are cheaper.

Yeah but but the Radeon 7950 is like 80 Dollars more. I don't think I can afford that

Thanks! the LE looks pretty good I guess I'll consider that too. Also, I'm not really familiar with overclocking. Is it really that hard?

Thanks! What do you think about the Radeon 7870 LE. Its only 40 Dollars more and I've heard that it is actually a crippled Radeon HD 7950. What's your opinion on it?

K I'll keep that in mind.

the diffrence seems to be about 3-7fps.

It depends if your going to overclock the the 7870 LE. If your not gonna then get the normal version

Also you can crossfire a 7870 le with a 7950/7970 pretty cool

So yea if your overclocking get the LE if not stick with the orignal

Since the 7950 overclocks better than the 7870. so a 7870 le would overclock quite a bit better than a original 7870

I have been considering overclocking. What do you think? This will be my first custom build, so I don't want to screw it up. I do, however, want to get the most for my money. And if overclocking is the way to go then I'll do it.

Overclocking is safe as long as you dont mess with voltages. When you overclock "too much" the computer will just restart so its bassically saying the overclocking is too high. and go lower. Go up a bit by bit making sure its stable so yea. just take your time and you will be fine. and for $40 its pretty decent.

Its up to you

Yea voltages is where it becomes more serious. Do resarch before pumping up the voltage

the benchmarks I saw the 660ti consistently beats the 7870. it has the same pcb as the 670 so over clocking should bring additional performance if you really thought you would need it. forgot to mention the monitor/resolution which is a major factor in buying a card..............

The resolution is 1920 x 1080 on Dell ultrasharp U2312HM

Alright sounds good. So yes I will overclock then.

What is your opinion on the Radeon 7870 LE vs the GeForce GTX 660TI? Because its a crippled Tahitti 7950, I thought the 7870 LE would be better. But I'm new to all this stuff so I wanted your opinion.

I saw a video ( oc3d ) but can't remember the exact data. my opinion the LE is a completely different animal and worth a serious look. ultimately it's up to you. don't take anybody's word for it ( opinions vary here )... seek them out at multiple sites and decide for yourself. but don't forget to remember the other hardware in your case and then look at what the review sites are using. guaranteed not too many people can come close so getting a "bigger" card might not matter.
