PNY GTX 780 Ti or GTX 970

Solution
The 780 Ti is a fine card and at current < $450 prices I could not produce a solid argument against the purchase.

At $580, the 980 is almost 30% more money but only 7% faster at 1920 x 1980, 6 % faster at 5760 x 1080 , 7% faster at 4kand 5% faster at 2560 x 1600. So do you wanna spend 30% more for a 5 - 7% gain ?

OTOH, it's last generation card so if you sell your cards at some point, it's likely the value will be less.

The Ti is about 25% more money than a 970....and is 4 - 8 % faster .... so on a cost per frame basis, at least today, it's 970 > 7870 Ti > 980

GTX 980...

The TI is expensive for what it does. It was the best single card, but was bad at higher rez due to poor bandwith (SLI).

A 970 is weaker than a TI and the 980 GTX barely edge out a TI, but it is overly expensive and doesn`t make sense anymore.

I'm not really following your logic. You're saying 980, but the reasons you give sound more like they'd be in support of a 780 Ti in the context of their use. The cheapest 980 is $550, but that 780 Ti is $425, which is a $125 difference for a card that may be newer and uses less energy--irrelevant to me--but is virtually the same speed.

Excellent reply. Is the referenced 970 at stock speed or OC'd?

Energy use and resale value are irrelevant to me. Price per performance is my sole consideration. You said the Ti is between 4% - 8% faster than the 970, but is that concerning a stock 970 or overclocked 970? I'm coming from a 680, and thanks to your reply, I'm leaning toward a 970.
