Can anyone tell me if there is really a point to Crossfire 4870x2's??

I am running a 24inch monitor at 1920x1080, what kind of performance increase would i expect to see if i add a second 4870x2?

I'm also wondering if a corsair 1000w would power both of them.?

thanks =)

To test for a performance increase, first you'd have to find a game that you can't max out now on very high for all settings (AA, AF, etc). At your current resoluuion, you'll get a perfromance increase but I'm not sure if you consider it significant to go 100 fps to 120 fps. The human eye/brain can't distinguish if you're going 110 or 130 frames per second so what is the benefit?

There is no point of CF 4870x2.
Even a single card can max out every single game.You would be wasting money.
Maybe an year later you may feel the need to CF but now you should not.
And ya.........Corsair 1000w would be enough for 2 4870x2's.

You will notice a few differences, because a single 4870 X2 can't max EVERY game. Mostly you'll be able to crank up the AA and AF and in Crysis you can then set everything to Very High and look at some AA and AF if you choose. It is a future proof type of thing I suppose, no real need for it but that second card in there sure looks pretty.

I ran 2 perfectly fine off of a 750w for a few weeks, a 850w-1000w would be advised but the power requirements of today's hardware aren't stretching any 1kw PSUs quite yet. The Corsiar, as you said, would be perfectly fine.
