Pointer speed vs DPI in Gaming mouse

In gaming mice, there's often very high dpi settings which are although meaning less but to some extent they matter. At least for games that require fast movement. However, the mouse pointer speed in Windows seems to do the same thing. So I'm asking whether they're both the same thing? If not, then why or why not it's better to have more DPI over more pointer speed.

Any Windows pointer setting except the middle one either throws away data, or interpolates and creates coordinate data that doesn't actually exist. It's like upscaling a video to a different resolution--you have not improved the quality at all.

So for the most reliably accurate movement, it's best to leave that setting in the middle and adjust DPI in the mouse or its drivers. You also have to actually look up the specs of the mouse sensor too, because some settings there may also exceed the native resolution of the sensor.
