Could this work? Or is the motherboard just too disgusting for a Q8400 & intel SDD.

Look forward to hearing what sort of problems i would get if i bought all this. I've literally put this together tonight with absolulely zero understanding of what i am looking at. I am looking to buy something along the lines of this in the next fortnight with a budget of around £500-600. Its soley for playing online poker with. 80gig is more then sufficient imho for my requirements.

You can cut a good chunk out of your budget by switching to a standard HDD instead of the SSD, the price difference is extreme right now especially for a build in that price range.

Comes out to 419 including VAT, and should be more than enough for online poker, you can swap the HDD out for a smaller cheaper one if you want but if you go to small they go up in price. The Corsair 550vx also gives you a lot of head room if you want to install a discrete video card in the future.

You have a little room under your budget with hunter315's build, so you could add a Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 4670 to help with graphics & in case you decide to play other games.

The build is based around the SSD, if I cant get an SSD then its not worth doing rly imho for my requirements.

Only an SSD will make a significant difference to my hand history poker database and the heads up display that constantly imports infomration from a postgres database onto the online cardrooms showing opponent "stats".

If I cant get an SSD then i wont do it basically, until they are cheaper.

That PSU is still plenty strong, OCZ is one of the major PSU makers and as you are only running an IGP you have plenty of power. For the HDD the Western Digital Caviar Black series especially the 640GB version are some of the faster HDDs out there right now, they are a bit more expensive but they are built strong.

Pick a different SSD, like the (newer) OCZ vertex. Its just as fast as the intel, but a fraction of the cost.

Okay I am making adjustments as I go along but feel like I am getting somwhere. I just wasnt going to state that I was getting an SSD due to the hassle it causes with ppl telling me not to do it.

I think you will need a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter to fit your SSD into a standard case.

I am swaying towards going with a intel core 2 quad... will that fit on this mobo? (cause any problems?)

AMD boards only support AMD chips, intel boards only support intel chips, you would need a p43 or p45 board and you would need to change back to ddr2.

The price will increase as the cheapest C2Q is 120 and a p45 motherboard will cost the same as the 790gx board, but you wont get much of a performance difference as i doubt poker uses more than 2 cores.

If everything is retail it should come with all the cables you need, but im not sure as they dont list the entire contents of the box, but motherboards generally come with sata cables and a few other important bits that you might need but other than the sata cables there are no special cables you will need.
