What drivers were you using before, what do you use now, and what are your results? Is DX8 and Detenator 7.17 drivers the cure-all for Win 2k gamers?

Hey,

I don't know about the beta Det 3 drivers, people have been giving on and off reviews about them. From each release I get different results on my TNT2. I tested Dx8 for Microsoft, adn I must say you have to go with it. It run a lot of my programs faster, and my D3D is very smooth, but clear. Win2k isn't much of a gaming platform but it's gaining support. If you really want gaming support go with Win98se. It's faster than ME, and has more gaming support than 2k (but not as stable)

Win2k + DX8 + GeForce cards = Win2k + DX7 + Geforce cards = WinMe + DX8 + GeForce cards - a few fps in games + stability + security

Morgan 1.6Ghz + 256DDR = Dream on
However dreams are approacable

WIN2K + DX7 + Det6.31 3DMark2000 around 5000-5100
WIN2K + DX8 + Det7.17 3DMark2000 around 6500-6600

DX8+Det7.17 : use more Ram. UT once in a blue moon game would stop for few seconds then resume normally, no crash . Q3 about 9 FPS increase, Stable . 3DMark2000 test load faster.

TB 1gig + FOP38 + A7V + 256 meg ram + Abit siluro GTS 2 64 meg, SB Live Player , 2 X 20 Gig Baracuda ATAII

It improves speed for that v7700 but not my Matrox G400MAX... OK, like 100 points, but that's not significant enough...

Smart guys are not smart because they only see things at a different perspective.

The Detonator Beta Driver 7.17 are optimised for DX , is the Matrox Driver optimised for DX8? As i use the Offical Detonator Driver 6.31 which optimised for DX7 the improvement is negligible.

I don't think the optimization really matters... I don't know. Let me wait for the release of 6.10 drivers for Win2000 and I will tell you.
Edited by machow on 11/12/00 10:27 PM.

yes it does, the driver must support DX8 in order to use the new feature in DX8.

WOW: Are you saying that DX8 fixed the 1-2 sec stops in UT???
I've been blaming LiveWare for that.
Would love to get UT working 100% in W2K. Bye bye Win98.....
