Poor Dedicated PhysX Performance

Hello, recently i upgraded my GTX 660 to the GTX 770. I decided to use this old card as a physx card for the mean time, but when I use it it's like it barely does anything at all. Am I doing something wrong? I downloaded the newest drivers on both the cards and set the GTX 660 to physx. I've seen people with the 260 as physx and they're getting better fps than I am.

I've never used a 2nd GPU purely for PhysX, but according to your motherboards page, it only supports CrossFire (AMD's equivalent to Nvidia's SLI). That may possibly have something to do with it. However, if it's showing up in the Nvidia Control Panel, possibly not.. :3

it definitely works, i've seen about a 5fps improvement in every scenario, i'm playing borderlands 2 by the way

A few days ago I had a board that supported SLI, but i dedicated one card to physx and the same thing happened. however i was using two 660s.

Like I said, I've never used a 2nd card purely for Physx. You need someone who knows about that kind of thing lol.

Not all games utilize PhysX heavily enough to gain a lot out of a dedicated PhysX card. Depending on the game, the performance improvements with a dedicated card may be minimal, while other times it is much more.

im pretty sure borderlands 2 would since it uses physx the most to my knowledge

i don't think you well hump in fps other than remove the phsyx heavy duty to the 660 , however it should maintain the 770 performance

Since a lot of people use the advanced PhysX on their CPU, I don't think BL2 is one that uses it a lot. Or should I say, it doesn't use demanding amounts of PhysX.

it does use very demanding physx because when i turn it off it doesn't dip below 60 at all but when i put it on medium it dips to about 25fps and on high physx it dips to 15fps. i haven't tried dedicating the cpu to physx because of nvidia's technology but i guess i could try it.

DO NOT dedicate your CPU to PhysX when you have an Nvidia system, particularly one with a dedicated PhysX card. PhysX on the CPU will definitely kill your performance. In Borderlands 2, there is some evidence that AMD users are able to run PhysX at Medium settings on the CPU, but certain scenes at Maximum settings will fail.

I would go through the installation process again with your dedicated PhysX card. Make sure that your control panel is configured properly and then test very carefully with PhysX On and Off and dedicated to the 660, then dedicated to the 770. It may be working correctly, It just may be hard to see the FPS gains in that particular game, which is one of the few that can run well on alternate setups. Maybe try out something like Batman to be sure.
