Hi all, i have an issue that i have been facing with for about a year now. I am having some issues with my wireless/lan internet connection. Ever so often my internet starts to give very poor performance. I have a 10 Mb/s connection and some days it works perfect and on other days it works very poor. Just last 2 weeks it have been working very well, able to watch movies without buffer, watch live football etc with no issues. Now today my wifi on my laptop lost signal for a 2 minutes. When i realized it was the modem/router which i received from my ISP, that had lost signal. After I reseted the modem/router and waited for the connection to stabilize, I started to get very poor performance, you-tube seems to work ok but all my other sites to watch movies etc cant even run for 1 minute without buffering.I am very confuse about this issue, 1st i thought maybe its my firewall or some programme affecting the connection but i have 3 computers systems and 1 is a recently new built rig and even all those gives the same problem. Can anyone tell if its a problem on the ISP end? For those who are aware of FLOW internet service, they are my ISP. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much.

Solution
ISP-provided router/modem combinations run pretty poorly, most of them are refurbished many many many times before arriving in your hands.

The technicians that come to your house test the speed via Ethernet, which doesn't test the Wi-Fi capabilities of the router.

I suggest buying a decent router and run the provider-given router in "bridge" mode, which will turn off the router/modem's Wi-Fi capabilities and just work as a modem, then connect your purchased router to the modem via Ethernet.

If there is a Costco near you, and you happen to have a member or have a friend who does, I suggest you go buy one of their router, since they have excellent return policy (you can return it if it breaks at any time, no 30/60/90-day limits!)...

Thanks for the quick response house70. I was thinking the same thing as well but when a technician from my service provider visited me and tested the modem he said the modem was working fine and it is giving max speed. Dont know what is really going on.
