Poor path routing question

I remember in the original Sims that they weren't very good at finding the
best path to a particular item. While some of this seems to be better in
Sims 2, it also seems to have gotten worse in some ways. I built a house
that has a front door, side door and has a small backyard enclosed by a
fence with a gate. I ordered groceries and the delivery guy was moving very
very slowly. Next thing I notice the groceries are left outside and he is
gone. The next time this happened I found him in my backyard just standing
around while my female Sim was pregnant, about to die from starvation and
standing around in the basement looking for the delivery guy.

I removed the gate from the backyard and this seems to have fixed the
problem but that's really lame. I shouldn't have to lock out my backyard
especially when the front door is right there, double wide and closest to
the curb.

Has anyone else seen this? Is this a known bug?

Thanks,
Richard

This happens to me quite frequently. I've even had visitors walk through the
house to get to the back door to ring the doorbell! I may be mistaken, but I
think there's a hack to correct this at MTS2.

Yes, I have been irritated by gardeners and others who can't seem to
find their way out of houses with fencing, and these are houses that
Maxis built in the game. Rather than spend most of their day doing
their job, they do a little bit and then stand there, "trapped," waving
at me that they can't find their way, even though the gate is two steps
away. When they finally do take those two steps, it's time to go home
and half the yard is still undone.

Grrrrr...

I share your pain. The gardener has irritated me since the first game.
I have the hack from ModtheSims2 that makes the gardener come everyday
cause there's no other way to keep up with all the weeds and overgrowth
on the bushes and hedges. Even then if some bush or hedge is not placed
just right, they wave their arms and complain that they can't do it.
I'd love to smack them around for being so damn stupid. Just my 2 cents.

I have/had a house with two back doors, so they went out one door, in the
other to get to the front door. I don't think you can give them too much
Choice. I'm constantly removing doors, that's been my main problem with them
finding the best paths.
