Poor quality TV out

I just bought MSI Geforce FX 5600 and tried to hooked up to my TV via home theater cambridge megatheater 505.
I can see the picture on my TV but picture quality is so poor. TV is flicker and color is so flat.
I tried several setting on my graphic card but it did not help.
I can not hooked it up directly to my TV because it is old model and only have video in with RCA.
Did I miss something here?
Your help will be appreciated, guys.....

What kind of cable is going into your TV? If it is a low quality cable that might be the problem.

Not to say this is the issue, however you do realize viewing your computer on your tv will look very pixelated in most cases anyways simply because the resolution on the tv is typically really bad right? But televion's bad resolution is unnoticable when viewing televion shows for the most part.

What I have read from several forum, they have perfect picture viewing from TV screen, so it's mean that something wrong either with my card, setting or cable.
I will try to get better one, and will give you update

I've "heard" that a tv's resolution is best at 640X480, but I've never tried hooking it up to a tv so I'm not 100% sure about this.

So to be clear how about you give some examples of the poor picture quality. Is it with Text, with TV shows downloaded from the .net, Movies, Games, Porn... what exactly?

And if it's not a direct connection to your TV then YOU are introducing quality issues.

It does sound like youhave no reference point and are realizing what most of us familiar with TV-out already know. TV out is not great for quality, but the TV does try hard to cover up. Check with nV they likely have similar features to improve TV out quality as found on Matrox and ATI cards. Changing font size and such helps, and they may have additional features to assist with things like text.

Hi Thegrape,
I understand that I would not get same picture quality like on my monitor. But this is too poor, fickering, out of focus(blur) and the color is flat
I have tried all nview setting (maybe missed something), now the only thing I have not tried is change high quality s-video cable.
Hopefully this would help.

No, you won't get the same picture quality like your monitor but that goes both ways. Granted, you will not get the sharpness of your monitor but under no circumstances will your image be more pixelated than the one on your monitor. Your TV's lower resolution will smooth everything out. In some cases with several games (depending on their requirements) you will get a much smoother image on your TV than in your monitor. Try it and you will see what i mean.
Plus, in many cases (depending on your TV - it's not a cheap one, is it?) you will find out that the picture is much more realistic in terms of contrast than your monitor. So, if you manage to get your TV-out right you will find it very useful.
And yes, you should check with a different cable first, but try borrowing one instead of bying one until you are satisfied: after all it could very well be that the issue lies elsewhere, like grounding or feedback somewhere along your conections.

What is it that is out of focus, text, or pictures?

Text will always look less sharp on TV because of the properties of TV which soften a picture. Games and such will look a little softer/more blended on the TV though compared to a CRT computer monitor running at 640x480. The BLUR really is more of a function of the TV, for text it's terrible, for images it makes them look smoother and more coherent.
The colour on the other hand should be somewhat better on a TV, but the source (comp./gcard) will likely not give you the same quality as a DVD playback, but when playing back a game (same source) it should look better than a computer running @ 640x480.

Like I said before, if you are using ANYTHING as an intermediary between the graphics cards out to the TV you will introduce degredation. A VCR has a signal booster/filter built into it even for the RCA inputs to compensate for usually crummy connectors and mediocre quality input. This can add junk along with mediocre cabling. I would try another cable, but really it may be the setup and TV that may be exacerbating the situation, and even then maybe it's close to as good as it will get for standard or 'enhanced' definition.

If your still looking for information on your TV out problems I havnt had any experience with the GeForce FX 5600 card but I recently hookup up my GeForce 4MX 64 Meg card to my TV out with an adapter that goes from S video to RCA (my TV didnt have S Video either) and it worked perfect. I took it one more step and bought a Phillips video converter from Wal Mart ($20.00) its made to hook up a DVD player with S video out to an older TV with only RCA plugs on it with that I tapped into my home cable system and know I can watch what I have on my computer on any TV (4 of them) in the house.

I have a Geforce 8800 GTX 768mb and it uses S-Video And I've used it with my 42" Inch LG Flatscreen commonly.

I also have a Geforce GTX 470 1280mb that uses micro HDMI instead of S-Vid to regular HDMI on my TV.

The micro hdmi to hdmi tv is monitor quality 100% perfect as it should be, but I could NEVER get my S-Video system to be anywhere near it, very blurry no matter what I did, and could never get the resolution to fit the screen, no matter if I made custom resolutions or anything. I tried every damn thing anyone could think of and just couldnt get it there.

What is very annoying is that a friend of mine using a lower model than my 8800 system, and his bigger TV gets NEAR; but not perfect quality but way better than what I could get, his flatscreen gets near what my HDMI card does... After week of not wanting to be beaten by it, I had another friend who says his S-Vid is perfect and he couldnt fix it either ..

I could never find a solution for mine and gave up. so I am interested if you end up finding something... multiple cables didnt do anything, drivers, old drivers, any settings possible within anything. i'm just left thinking the card is messed up because how can my friend on a 52" inch LG get almost to my HDMI card quality with s-video and myself with a better card can't get close to that. I do not have another s-video card and I don't want to pay the prices for what compares for a new one similar to the 8800 with s-video and cant find one to borrow.

I hope you find something, i'll be watching.
