For some reason my cable modem keeps losing signal. I'm with sudden link right now and I cant figure out if its my cable modem or them. Its like a roller coaster, because I'll get signal and then I'll lose signal and it will just keep going on. I tried unplugging the modem for 30 sec. and then plug it back in. I tried switching out the RG-6 cable and same thing keeps happening. I called their tech center and all they would do is send a signal to my modem. It will work good for a little bit then it will go back to the roller coaster ride again. My next hope is to buy a tester and test my modem and then test the cable going towards sudden link, but I don't want to buy a tester that 30$ when I'm not going to use it again. Is there any other way to see if it's my cable modem or sudden link?

Solution
Have your provider send a tech out to check the levels. I seriously doubt that a $30 tester is going to do a thing. The ones the cable techs carry are typically $3000+

You may also have cabling problems within the house/apartment/condo. The tech can determine that.

Most cable modems (if not all) allow you to log in and view the upstream and downstream signal levels.

You can use this as a general guide for proper signal levels:
