So i want to set up a server (yes, its a minecraft server -_-'') and when i port forward my NETGEAR WNDR3800 router i check it with yougetsignal.com on port 25565 and it says that the port is closed. My friend already has a server and he didnt port forward but i can connect (apple router)

help please

If minecraft is UPnP (Universal Plug-N-Play) aware, just enable UPnP in your router and the minecraft server will request that the router forward the necessary ports automatically.

If UPnP is not available, you should make sure the computer you have the minecraft server installed on has a static IP address otherwise it can render port forwarding useless.

UPnP is enabled, also i did some research and found out that i maybe need to forward my modem? or that my isp is blocking that port...
any idea on how to do that?

Appearently minecraft isn't UPnP aware then. You can't port forward a modem. Some modems come as a modem/router combo in which case you would be accessing the router portion of the device. Some ISp's will block the more standard ports like 80 and 25 so that you can't run servers/services at home, but minecraft doesn't run on a common port.

If your server is using a dynamic IP address, it has the potential to break the port forwarding as the IP address on the server can change anytime you reboot. Use a static IP address on the server and port forward to that address. Also make sure any firewalls you have running (including the windows firewall) is allowing that port to be used.
