Question Portable ACU makes no sense

Hi guys, so I've just rented a new apartment and the living room has the "Galanz AM-12E53CA1" portable ACU (really old model I suppose). My land lord is quite old and didn't check up on the previous tenants, so when I moved in I noticed there's something wrong with the unit.

Apparently there is no water outlet, so the water just keep dripping below (it has a faucet, that was clogged with a factory cork but still dripped); I removed the cork and placed a bowl below it, water drips there but the unit produces like half a gallon of water in less than two hours of cooling, is this normal? The main issue is that the faucet is ~1 inch from the floor and I can't place a larger bowl below it, or connect some sort of hose. Also:

  • Is there supposed to be an air filter in the external tube? (there isn't any in mine)
  • The water that the ACU is producing is quite dirty, even though I've cleaned the filters
  • The refrigerant hasn't been changed in years I suspect, how often should it be refilled?

Sorry for the question storm, couldn't find any sort of user's manual online or help whatsoever. I also apologize for dumb questions if there are any, I have no experience on this topic.

generally, the portable units like that do not get refilled. they get replaced when their life ends most of the time. at least i've never heard of one being refilled after years of use.

the water is normal really, but usually it drains either outside or into a drain. it should not be draining into the house for sure!!

most of the time i see a hose attached to the outlet like you are describing and then it is run through the wall to drain outside or into a nearby drain inside the house. you should not have to be collecting it into a bowl yourself.

i'd run it by the landlord and see how he wants to drain it. perhaps it had something in place before and the last tenants removed it to be stupid. i doubt he'll just say "let it drain on the floor, i don't care" give him a chance and hopefully he'll offer a solution or let you do it. a hose attached and pushed through the wall is a quick easy way but be sure to seal the hole up nice and tight of you'll get varmits and weather coming in through the hole.

lol, i understand. i've dealt with older folks myself and it is not always easy.

since it is his house i'd start there. but if he seems like he barely knows where he is, then i'd simply do it myself. if he notices he'll probably think its always been that way :)

done right he'll have no reason to complain anyway.

Seconding @Math Geek.

Will add a comment.

Agree. But also watch where all that water may drain to or into: the water could make a real mess somewhere, very soon.
