Portable Linux

I need a good portable Linux that can be run from USB. I have tried Ubuntu and Kubuntu but the internet is unbearably slow on them for some unknown reason (downloading and browsing).

I need a distro that I can put on a USB stick and run on my home computer and my university computers. Our IT guys have said we can do this if we want our own desktop environment to work from.

Mainly I just want to use it for downloading/torrents of big files like game demos as it takes too long to do this on my home PC. Being new to Linux I' not sure if there is a distro directly aimed at this.

Any help would be appreciated.

This distro, called Ultilex, is a multi-distro project. I have this running on my USB drive, which I have SLAX, Clonezilla, Ubuntu, Knoppix and Puppy Linux in one shot. This way you can have multiple distros that have a specific task you want them to do.

Linux Peppermint is light and you can order a preloaded USB stick from their site or make your own.
