Portable mSATA Problem

I replaced the mSATA drive in my laptop and placed the old one in an mSATA enclosure (Mushkin) to use as a portable. Has worked well over the last two years but today neither my desktop or laptop will pick it up as they typically do. My desktop wants to format it, which obviously will destroy my data. The mSATA enclosure light just blinks constantly now, which wasn't the case before. I'm really hoping this isn't a sign that it has failed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Really need the data. Thanks

It connects through a USB cable. The mSATA drive is a Crucial SSD 240GB. Desktop runs Win 7 and Laptop Win 8.1.

FYI: I tried to run a check disk and it would. It came back that the drive was RAW. It shouldn't be as it was at about 50% capacity. I tried this as I received a "drive not accessible, data error cyclic redundancy check."
