so to be clear:

this is about wanting to replace portable thumb flash drives which seem to have difficulty when used for 1-2-3 monthly back ups using freefilesync

freefilesync is incredibly reliable but backing up to flash/thumb drives seems to mean not being able to delete files / access trash) when syncing.

The portable ssd drives im looking at is something like this for eg :

So what im trying to do is keep the ultra small size portability but find a work around for the re-write issues i encounter on flash/thumb drives. portable ssd drives are better for ultra small size than portable hdd drives -

ALSO to ask - how long is it before ssd drives start to lose data ? I'd be backing up every 1-2-3 months .
