We were all disappointed when Valve delayed HL2 weeks before it was supposed to come out, but what we got in return made it absolutely worth it. If they need the time to make Portal 2 as good or better than what they have already produced, I have no problem forgiving that.

Pretty funny. But if they had announced that they'd be taking over the development of Duke Nukem Forever it would have been one of the most epic E3 surprises ever.

This is... uhh... old news by now guys, you said it was revealed in your tweet... but regardless, its Source Engine 2, and Half-Life 3, with EP.3 being the beginning of HL3. There, happy? 4 more days, and I'm right, enjoy.

This shouldn't surprise anyone. The original cancellation email said, "If you'd like to ask fruitless questions about the E3 Portal 2 surprise..." which was a pretty big indication that the "surprise" still had to do with Portal 2, and not some other huge project that they've secretly been working on.

Portal 2 is a lie, Portal 2 is a lie, Portal 2 is a...whyyyyyyyyy!

Well, hopefully they do make Portal 2 even better then Portal was, especially if it's going to have a new engine. Steam knows what they are doing, hopefully, otherwise this might turn out to hurt them if they mess this surprise up.

I don't understand, what does this post reveal exactly? We already knew that Portal 2 was delayed and we already knew that the surprise has SOMETHING to do with Portal 2...but the title led me to believe that Valve had revealed what exactly WAS being revealed...so does this article tell us ANYTHING new?

You all should know that "By the end of 2010" to Valve means "By summer 2011." No one should have truly been expecting Portal 2 this year from Valve after they stated it would be here this year. Now, the news that it is being pushed back into an undisclosed date in 2011 means that it will either be early 2010 or holiday season 2011 before the game actually comes out. That's Valve Time.

Could someone hack Gabe's email and see what's really going on? Oh, wait...

As part of a previously mentioned press release policy, we can no longer lie to you.

After the E3 surprise, you will be... missed.

Please assume the surprise submission position.

+1

[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]OMG the people at Valve are turning into the biggest pussies in the gaming world. saying making games is hard and months ago saying the same thing to why they don't make games for the PS3.[/citation]
As for you, calm down. The message title is part of the release from the Aperture Science POV that they've taken with these "press releases". Valve is obviously having fun with it. Perhaps you should as well...?

After all, life will continue...at least until there is a rip in the Valve Time Fabric...=)

Come on, everyone knows the big announcement will be Left for Dead 3, and then Left for Dead 4 the month after that.

Whaaat? The cancel a "Portal 2 Event" to deliver a "surprise" instead. And now they say that the "surprise" if "Portal 2 Themed?" What the hey? Why change the name then?

so are they "hinting" that there will be a rip in the valve time fabric? and by "hinting" that, are they "hinting" that portal 2 will actually not be delayed, but be released early? like at, say, E3?

They went on to say that even though Portal 2 will arrive slightly later than planned, all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light

..total protonic reversal!
