Portal 2 Help

Hello everyone, I recently bought Portal 2 on Steam a few days ago when it was on sale. I was really excited to play this game when something went wrong. As it launched I got passed the Valve screen, with the man with the valve in the back of his head, then it showed the loading screen for the game and my computer just shut off. I tried it a second time. I restarted and launched the game, this time my computer didn't shut off. It gave me a random blue screen, which I think could have been the blue screen of death. I don't know why it only happened with that one game. Even though I got that blue screen my computer is running fine now, and I am using it to type this message. One thing I can think of that could made it go wrong was my graphics card, I have probably the worst graphics card there is and it has around 1GB of RAM.

If you have any suggestions that might help fix this problem i'd be glad to here them, sorry if my message made me sound like a total noob, i'm new to PC gaming, and plan to build my own gaming PC this summer.

Here they are, just as I side not I didn't know much about PC's when I bought this last December:

Processor: AMD FX-6100 six-core

RAM: 6GB DDR3

Hard Drive: 1TB HDD

Graphics Card: 1GB AMD HD 7450

Power: 300w (I know it sucks)

I bought it from HP if you wanted to know.

i think your possible problem is your PSU, these specs need at least a 450W PSU, the BSOD you're having is from your CPU, your CPU didnt have much power from PSU after running the game so it makes it unstable with Volts on max clocks then BAM! a BSOD.

what other games do you play than portal 2?

Just to add on to what ryqril said, BSOD means "Black Screen of Death" usually referred to the PC shutting down/ hanging, etc. He is also correct that the possible problem is your PSU. While your PSU can handle the load of the rig till the startup screen, the rig starts drawing more power (more than 300W) when it is loading the game, etc. That's where the PSU is failing as it cannot provide more than 300W, when your PC is demanding more power (say 450W).

A better PSU is in order - and while you're at it, make sure you get a good branded PSU such as Corsair, Antec, etc. Cheap PSU's are a big no-no for gaming rigs as they tend to fail in majority of cases resulting in damaging your system.

Alright thank you very much, i'm planning to build a new computer this summer with at least 800w of power.

I play Minecraft, Portal, TF2, Counter Strike, and Skyrim on the worst settings that you could imagine.
