i have recently got my internet switch to fiber and recently bought a router last week on march 23. i only have a router no modem. the router is a Netgear N3oo WNR2000v5

local ip begins in 10.0.0.x

iv tried for at least a week to set up a minecraft server to see if my portforwarding works.

i have tried with the following ports:

25565
25567
25568
etc.

and yes i have tried them individually.

i have also tried to enable DMZ mode on the router for the pc that is hosting the server but still is not working... :/

ive use this site :http://www.ipfingerprints.com/portscan.php to check and see if the port is open a long with others, and sure enough it was not but when i put it to "dont Ping" it says the the host is up but the port is filtered and when i looked up what thats means it told me that it has something to do with the router firwall but there is no button to access the firewall properties. i know that my isp is not blocking any ports because my friend has the same and is hosting servers of all sorts, even minecraft. so i really dont know what to do here, im sure someone out there has this router and it would be great if someone could help me out 😛

i have gone through all the settings and still nothing 🙁

No modem? What if anything is connected to the router's WAN port? Or LAN ports for that matter?

Or are you trying to use the wireless router to connect to some other router either wired or wireless?

You need some connection to the "fiber" to access the internet.

What was installed when you switched to fiber?

im not really sure what you are asking so im just gonna say that all the guy did was install a box on the side of my house and ran a ethernet cord through my floor and another to power it and i dont have a modem no.

and im basically trying to get people to connect to the server so that i know if i forwarded the ports corectly. but non of them can join :/

The usual connection path is:

ISP ----> Modem ----> Router -----> User devices.

The Modem and Router can be combined into one device or there may be a Modem/Router -----> Router connection with the routing functions of the Modem/Router disabled.

The arrows represent the connectivity between devices. Incoming from the ISP can be DSL, coax, or fiber. Internal connections ethernet and wireless.

Just to confirm, all other internet functions/connections and internal network connections are working as expected - correct?

Are you able to look in or at the box on the side of the house to see what is installed? Look for LAN ports, Make & Model information.

As I understand your connection description there should be some device with an incoming fiber cable and an outgoing ethernet cable. Hopefully not a factor but it is important to have some sense of the devices being installed by the ISPs. Trend is to take away control from end users. And generally not in favor of the end users....

That said:

Do you have the User Manual for the router? If not and if I have found the correct manual - see Page 91 per the following link:

https://mans.io/files/viewer/28423/91

First verify that you are are configuring Port Forwarding correctly.

Secondly, observe any error messages carefully and see if you can provide more detail with regards to wording or error codes perhaps.

Third, access your Netgear Admin pages - check the logs per the manual's instructions beginning on Page 81 - may find some additional information there as well.

i have gone through th pages and everything i have done are on here is correct. i can not get to the box on the side of my house because i lack the tools but i can tell you that there is a fiber line coming from the ground to the box and a ethernet Cat 5e cable coming from it straight to my router. so if there is a modem it has to be that thing outside.

and yes my internet works perfectly, its just that i cant port forward unfortunately.

should i just factory reset my router? when i got it im pretty sure i messed up some things when i was piecing it together.
even when i was reading the short easy Manuel. it not in depth like the one on the website but it still shows basic information (but it doesnot show anything about port forwarding, DMZ, Etc)

so now i know it has something to do with the boz out side because when i took the cord going into the router and hook it up to a computer, i got another gatway, so i tried to connect to it and it kept saying failed to connect DNS something or whatever.

When you connected the ethernet cable from the outside box to your PC you bypassed your router. That can work but your computer no longer knows where to get its' DHCP address. Probably still looking for the router.... You would need to configure your computer to get its IP address via the ISP.

Can you post the "connection failure" message exactly as it is presented? Just as a matter of record...

However, since internet works fine via the original installation, i.e., the following line diagram:

ISP ---fiber-----> Fiber optic modem -----ethernet cable -----> [WAN] Router [LAN] -----ethernet cable -------> PC

then something else is astray.

Normally the Netgear Router's IP is 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1

Have you set up your network to use the 10.0.0.0 range?

(Note: 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255. and 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 are also reserved for similar use.)

Can you run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) from the command prompt and post the results.

Yes, you could reset your router and perhaps correct the problem. Hold on any reset if you can. Best to spend some time to take a closer look at the overall network configuration. Too many changes may become counter-productive.

this is what i get for running that command in the cmd

C:\Windows\system32>ipconfig / all

Error: unrecognized or incomplete command line.

USAGE:
ipconfig [/allcompartments] [/? | /all |
/renew [adapter] | /release [adapter] |
/renew6 [adapter] | /release6 [adapter] |
/flushdns | /displaydns | /registerdns |
/showclassid adapter |
/setclassid adapter [classid] |
/showclassid6 adapter |
/setclassid6 adapter [classid] ]

where
adapter Connection name
(wildcard characters * and ? allowed, see examples)

Options:
/? Display this help message
/all Display full configuration information.
/release Release the IPv4 address for the specified adapter.
/release6 Release the IPv6 address for the specified adapter.
/renew Renew the IPv4 address for the specified adapter.
/renew6 Renew the IPv6 address for the specified adapter.
/flushdns Purges the DNS Resolver cache.
/registerdns Refreshes all DHCP leases and re-registers DNS names
/displaydns Display the contents of the DNS Resolver Cache.
/showclassid Displays all the dhcp class IDs allowed for adapter.
/setclassid Modifies the dhcp class id.
/showclassid6 Displays all the IPv6 DHCP class IDs allowed for adapter.
/setclassid6 Modifies the IPv6 DHCP class id.

The default is to display only the IP address, subnet mask and
default gateway for each adapter bound to TCP/IP.

For Release and Renew, if no adapter name is specified, then the IP address
leases for all adapters bound to TCP/IP will be released or renewed.

For Setclassid and Setclassid6, if no ClassId is specified, then the ClassId is removed.

Examples:
> ipconfig ... Show information
> ipconfig /all ... Show detailed information
> ipconfig /renew ... renew all adapters
> ipconfig /renew EL* ... renew any connection that has its
name starting with EL
> ipconfig /release *Con* ... release all matching connections,
eg. "Wired Ethernet Connection 1" or
"Wired Ethernet Connection 2"
> ipconfig /allcompartments ... Show information about all
compartments
> ipconfig /allcompartments /all ... Show detailed information about all
compartments

the router automatically set itself to use the 10.0.0.1 when i choosed the recomended settings.
and how would i set my pc to get its ip from the isp?

when i hooked my pc up straight to the ethernet that is coming from outside the ip changes to 192.168.1.1 so when i tried to connect to it this is whats displayed:

This site can’t be reached

192.168.1.1 took too long to respond.
Try:
Checking the connection
Checking the proxy and the firewall
Running Windows Network Diagnostics
ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

But the thing is it instanlty goes to that instead of taking the time to look for the modem when i put it the ip, like im being blocked or something.

And this is my network configuration

ISP ---fiber-----> Fiber optic modem (the Box that is outside)-----ethernet cable -----> [WAN] Router [LAN] -----ethernet cable -------> PC

i aslo tried factory reseting the router and had no change in the problem :/

FUNKBOX is going to the Netgear Router at 10.0.0.1 (255.255.255.0) and being assigned a DHCP IP address 10.0.0.4.

That is normal and seems to be working.

However ipconfig /all indicates a second virtual network adapter: "Hamachi".

Did you intentionally establish the virtual adapter shown as "Ethernet adapter Hamachi"? Are you using any virtual configurations at all? You have not mentioned that per se so I would suspect not - unless virtual adapter is some part of your Minecraft server setup. [Not familar with that setup per se....]

If not, remove or disable that virtual ethernet adapter.

Also: Does your ISP provide IPv6? If not, uncheck the "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) box in the Realtek adapter configuration.

Change only one thing at a time and test between changes.

yes i installed the hamchi adapter and i am unsure that my isp gives me and IPv6

Fixed!! apparently the technician forgot somesettings in the box outside, i wasent home so i dont know the full details but now i know i can port forward. if something else occurs ill be sure to post here again
