So my brothers old PSU has died and its a very low end PC
(Intel Dual Core E7400 and Asus en210 gfx card)

Im thinking of just buying this PSU to install

https://www.scan.co.uk/products/500w-scanfx-power-supply-with-120mm-quiet-fan-atx

However my problem is the case has no fans and this PSU fan is either up or down.
The old PSU had a rear exhaust fan pushing hot air out.

How would I position this in the case? (PSU will be top mounted)

Solution
Then you want the PSU fan pointing down, so it can breath and take in air to exhaust out the back, if its against a wall it will choke itself. Thats an awfully cheap PSU.

What budget PSU would you recommend for a PC like this? Intel E7400 and Asus En210 (geforce 210) gfx card, its not very power hungry and is VERY old

There is about a 30-50cm clearance from behind the PC to the wall

What are you planning on using the computer for?

Its for my little brother, so browsing and minecraft I guess. Right now I think he plays BF3 on ultra low settings which were modified by an external program (so the pc could run it on playable FPS), but he doesn't play that much

Well since it's such a low end system I "suppose " the PSU will be fine, but make sure the fan is facing down towards the components as it will be choked if that large opening is against the side of the case.

Thanks, which large opening?

Also I might buy an 80mm fan to put on the back to further exhaust, or should I make it an input fan on the front?

The power supply takes in air where you see the large fan and exhausts it out the rear, so you want the air coming into it and blowing out the back, if the fan is agains the of the case it won't get air flow and evidentially starve, unless you drill a load of little holes in the top.

here is an image of how they work sort of.

Good plan, and due to the nature of it being a very low end PC, the power supply should suffice and onto of that Scan are pretty good with RMA's if you get problems : )
