I have a combo cable modem/router set up in my family room. I have a desktop in my home office. I would like to hardwire the desktop to the internet, but it would not be possible to run an Ethernet cable from the current modem/router to my office desktop. There is an Xfinity cable running to my office. I also have an extra cable modem/router. Can I just connect this modem/router to the Xfinity cable in my office and plug in an Ethernet cable to it and on to my desktop? If so, would there be any special configurations needed in this second modem/router? I do not want to use this extra modem/router for wi-fi. It will be dedicated to bringing an Ethernet connection to this one desktop. Thanks to anyone who might be able to help me.
