Hi
i have a situation
a small office with 4 windows 7 system
2 desktop (connected via lan cables) ( 1 pc used to share files & printers )
2 laptop (connected via wifi )
connected via basic adsl router with wifi
we have 1 or 2 days internet fail per month due to network issues.
so we plan 3 get a additional internet connection with different ISP.
now come the problem, router with load balancing / dual WAN port may not affordable & going to stuck with another adsl router with wifi ..
we may use 2nd router for wifi only but FILE & PRINTER sharing between 4 systems is must.
my idea is to connect 2 desktops in router 1
2 laptops on router 2
add 2nd network card on desktop 1 with file & printer sharing
only by using ip & subnet on 2 network card & connect in to router 2

now 2 desktops on router 1
desktop 1 with 2 nic( 1 connected router 1 / 2 connected router 2 via lan cable without default gateway) shared file & printer
2 laptops on router 2 (wifi)
will it work
A isp for 2 desktop
B isp for 2 laptop over wifi
common file & printer sharing form desktop 1 on router 1 to all four machines

Solution
It sounds like you're making this more complicated than it needs to be. If you bought a good ADSL router with WAN failover capabilities then all your problems could disappear. Look at the DrayTek Vigor 2860 series.

With regard to the Internet connection, have you established a likely cause? It seems excessive to undertake another contract for such a small office.

I agree, this sounds too complicated and depending on what the issues ar eyou might just lose both connections at the same time anyway. I dont quite understand the sense of spending all that money on another connection then cheaping out on the router. It also sounds like with your current solution if one connection should fail then half of your computers will be offline.

I would suggest working with your ISP to get a propper business broadband connection with a guarenteed availability.
Do you have any more info on what the "issues" are that cause the outage?

If its just an emergency connection you may wish to consider a router with failover to a cellular 4g/4g connection?
It could work out cheaper, and bypasses issues with the phone line completely.

If you re intent on going down the 2 ISP route then using the 2 ISP routers as simple modems, then having them both connected via ethernet to a small business router would probably be the way to go but it would require some fairly involved admin to get working with automatic failover etc.

i would pick up a biz switch that has vpn and two or more ip set ups. with one modem and setting like local food store you could have gust log in for a set time if needed. desktop and printer would be plugged into the switch. hp and other vendors sell small ethernet print spoolers so you could free up a pc from being the print spooler. just plug the spooler into one of the ports of the switch. on one port you plug a ap point for the laptop in the office. connect a fixed ip to a biz class modem.
