As Black Friday approaches, I am currently examining different paths to take - 1) AM5 build; 2) Upgrade AM4 build. My current build this this (CDN).

I am leaning towards 2) because it's most likely cheaper. I currently game in 1080p, and was going to pick up a 1440p monitor for cheap on Black Friday. I am planning on upgrading my GPU and PSU mainly. Based on my build:
  1. What CPU/GPU combos are there 1440p? (maybe a "budget price" and "higher end")
  2. What CPU/GPU combos are there 4k (if possible - in the future)? (maybe a "budget price" and "higher end")
  3. Am I able to use my existing Ryzen 5 2600 in any of these builds (probably not, but worth a try lol).

Nothing stopping you from using a 2600 for higher resolution gaming. If your minimum frame rates are acceptable now, that won't change. At higher resolutions you become GPU bound, and the CPU matters less.

Though an upgrade at this point is a good idea regardless. Ryzen 5600 would be a significant improvement and you could go up from there if you wanted to.

You really have to set a budget first.

I would say 1440p gaming starts at the RX 6700 or RTX 3060 Ti, Up to a RX 6800 or 3070/3070Ti depending on what you have to spend.
4K you would be looking at 6800XT/6900XT/6950XT, or the new 7900X or 7900XTX Or RTX 3080 12GB / RTX 3090 / RTX 4080

A good 650W (~200W) for the mid-range cards, (~250W) 750W for the next set of cards
A good 850W or higher for the bigger cards (~300-350)W

EVGA G6 series, Corsair RMx or RM series, SuperFlower Leadex, Seasonic...

I’ve got a 5900x and 6700xt which are fine for 1440p. You could go as low as a ryzen 5600. The good spot is probably a 5700x, but consider the 5800x3d on the higher end as it can trade blows with newer stuff.

As far as gpu, I agree with the above. Start minimum with an rx 6700xt or 3060ti. The 6700xt is fine but there are times I wouldn’t mind just a tad bit extra power. I don’t have at 4K, but obviously you need to look at the higher end cards for that.

I picked up a 5600 yesterday and I am holding to wait and see if the prices for the 5700x and 58003xd come down on Black Friday.

In terms of the GPU, I was looking at the 6750XT ($400 sale last week) and the 6900XT ($800 sale yesterday). Both of them I missed obviously. It seems buying the 6900XT would not be ideal for gaming in 1440p, so might be a waste of money....

On the other hand, if 4k monitors do decrease in price, then it might make sense to "future proof" a bit. Especially given if I make these major upgrades, I'd probably not touch AM5.
