Hi

Was wondering if I could get some help regarding some RAM I recently purchased. I currently have a Dell XPS 400, and I wanted to add some RAM, so I bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820144045&Tpk=GeIL%2b1 GB%2b(2%2bx%2b512MB)%2b240-Pin%2bDDR2%2bSDRAM%2bDDR2%2b667%2b(
(Sorry for the long link). After installing my computer did recognize the added memory, and worked fine for about 15 minutes, then I got the blue screen giving me an error message that was no doubt affiliated with the new RAM. But I rebooted, and it happened again.

I used CPU-Z and checked my current memory, which are dual channel 512MB sticks, PC2-4300 at 266MHz. And as you can see from the link, this new memory is PC2-5300 at 667MHz. Is there any way I can get this memory to work with the stock memory, or should I switch the new memory to the main sockets, or what? I'll take any suggestions but I'd rather not have to return it :)

Whenever you install new memory, it's a good idea to run memtest86+ through at least a couple of complete passes to make sure there are zero errors. It's available at www.memtest.org in versions to make a bootable floppy or bootable CD.

I'd start by just running the new RAM and see if this fixes the problem. If I understand correctly, you're currently running the old RAM as well

Just running the new RAM on it's own has worked fine so far, except I can no longer open Firefox, each time it "encounters a problem and must close". I'll keep it running a bit longer to see if I get blue screened again, if it works fine then what should it do?

If here are no more problems, don't run the old RAM because it's likely a compatibility problem. As for Firefox, I'd just reinstall it
