Hello. I have encountered a problem recently with my majority new build PC. Specs are as follows;
CPU - i7-2600 not overclocked (I believe) (stock cooler)
GPU - ASUS STRIX GTX-960
Motherboard - ASRock Z77 Extreme 4
Case - Coolermaster KS350
PSU - Corsair CX750M

I have been experiencing recently that my CPU has been reaching temperatures that are a lot higher than the previous week, whilst playing games (FIFA 15). The previous week, I was experiencing idle temperatures no higher than 33C, and whilst playing FIFA 15, the CPU would get no warmer than roughly 40-42C. This week however, under the same conditions, the CPU is idling at roughly 33-36.5C and whilst playing FIFA 15 has reached 65C. In the BIOS, I have selected for the optimum temperature to be 45C so after this the fans come on noisily which I did not encounter once the previous week. I have installed HWMonitor to check these temperatures. I know that the Intel stock cooler is not ideal, and was actually considering upgrading to a closed loop liquid cooling solution in the future, but I would like to find the cause of the problem rather than just putting a bigger cooler on it. The case has one CPU fan on the heatsink, one chassis fan next to the CPU expelling air, and a larger fan taking air in underneath the HDD.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks for your quick response. The cooler is the original Intel air cooler and heatsink. I only built this PC last week, and has been fine for a week and then this week, I've been encountering this problem. I took off the heatsink cleaned off the paste applied last week and reapplied the new thermal paste tonight, however the situation remains the same.

A quick update on my situation - after running prime95 for roughly a minute and a half, I was watching on HWMonitor the temperature and reached 75C. I know the stock Intel CPU cooler is not ideal but I've ran with this processor since 2011 and played hundreds of hours of games (albeit with a different motherboard and a GTX460) and never has it gotten this warm. I definitely don't think any of the sensors are incorrect as the expelled air is very warm too. Ambient temperature is 20C
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

these temps are still normal

Yes those temps are normal for running Prime95 especially with an intel cooler.

Thanks everyone for your help, I decided to get a CoolerMaster TX3 EVO with two fans in push/pull configuration, and installed it today. At idle, I haven't really noticed any difference in temperature, (still between 33C and 36C, however, when running prime 95 for about 15 mins I registered a max of 71C. Was expecting to see a bit more of a difference but nonetheless it is better on games - No more than 55C. I also found out why the CPU was reaching higher temperatures in one week compared to the last. This was due to when I installed the latest Nvidia driver, GeForce Experience decided to set the optimal settings for FIFA 15 and put the FPS to no limit whereas I had it manually set to 60FPS.
