Hello,
I was wondering if it is a good time to upgrade from an i5 6600k (base clock) to a new cpu? I plan on mainly playing games and I will never overclock. Any suggestions?

Solution
Depends on your budget of course. One of the best and cheapest options is the Intel Core i5-9600K. An i7 will give you a really good boost as well tho. Maybe take a look at the i7 7700k. Or if you really want future proof, get the newest gen: i7 9700k. That one is way more expensive tho. If you are not planning to overclock them, you can also get the non K version. Usually they're cheaper, so it will safe you some money.

So it really depends on your budget. If you're not planning to spend much, I'd suggest the i5 9600k /i5 9600. Otherwise, get a real future proof cpu, suggesting you'd get a cpu from the 9th gen. 8th gen would also do fine tho.

I will take a look at those, thank you. Future proofing is the main reason I want to do this, as I had just gotten rid of my gtx 960 for the 1070ti.

What resolution are you at? If you’re not at 1440p yet I’d get a new monitor before the CPU to take advantage of the GPU.

If you already have a high resolution monitor if you can find a good deal on a 6700k or 7700k get whichever is cheaper. They perform almost equally.
