A while ago I was having a problem with my computer randomly restarting or locking up, especially when watching movies online. Usually when streaming a movie the computer would crash within 5-10 minutes, but if i were watching a downloaded movie or playing a game, i would have the same problem, but maybe every hour or so.

I received a lot of advice on what might be the issue, and I've replaced the motherboard from an MSI z97 to a cheap MSI h81, i've replaced the GPU from a 280x to a GTX 960, and i've replaced the psu from a coolmax 1200w to a Corsair 500w.

I've run window's diagnostics on the memory and i've tested the hard drives and neither come back with errors. Could it be my processor, and is there a way to check? It does not crash under stress tests, it gets a little warm but does not crash. The last time it crashed (today) i took a picture of the temps because someone suggested that streaming video caused it to overheat.

My monitor is the LG34um95 ultra wide monitor. Could that have something to do with it? I've tried lowering the resolutions to run in traditional 16:9 1080p but it still crashes. I also didn't have any crashes when running off of the CPUs integrated chip, but I rarely used it at all. If you have any suggestions I'm open, all of my drivers for every piece of hardware are up to date.

thank you very much, here is the picture i took earlier today

Here... reset your BIOS. Bring your RAM timings and speed back up and try again. If that does not work try messing with your voltages or performance settings in the BIOS.

This is the only thing I can think of right now. It could be your RAM as well, or even the motherboard! Based on your descriptions it can literally be anything. Do you have the crash reports?

Damn, those are some pretty high max temps... what CPU cooler are you running? If it is the stock cooler with the stock thermal paste that could very well be it. Heat is the most known killer of CPUs, the crashing might very well not be crashing if you do not get a blue screen.

Based on those max temps I would guess it is thermal based. The i7-4790k cuts off around 95C to avoid thermal damage.

I'm running it on stock cooler right now, and i have no idea why it gets that hot, but it does on boot up and then cools down significantly, not sure why. I have a liquid cooler but just not installed right now. However, i did happen upon a possible solution, my awful NETIS N600 USB wifi adapter, i was reading about similar problems people were having, and someone mentioned their wifi adapter. The other day when the computer crashed i felt the adapter and it was very hot. I took off the plastic shell casing and it's crashing less and less, it crashed once yesterday which is better than once every 20 minutes.

Here's something that's strange, I can force crash the computer by maximizing the Steam program. I have no idea why it happens, but when I open up steam in a full window, my computer completely freezes. Any suggestions?

So, i started playing Shadows of Mordor, and it defaulted to 80% of 3440x1440, I adjusted it to 100%, a few minutes later the computer locked up. So I restarted the computer, this time WITHOUT my wireless adapter, I opened Shadows of Mordor, it crashed the computer within 2 minutes. I've already done a clean install of windows, replaced the GPU, mobo, and PSU. I installed the liquid cooler, idling at 33 Celsius now, but it's back to the drawing board, computer still crashes sans wifi adapter

There are no crash reports, i replaced the mobo, gpu, and psu, i tested the memory and the hard drives, nothing worked. Right now i'm going on 5 hours, no crashes, putting it through rigorous gaming and tests, i took out one of the memory sticks, it tested 100% good, but it must have been what was causing the crashes. thanks for your help!
