I have been searching here for some info about my pc which has been giving me all manner of trouble for awhile now. I thought it might be the PSU failing and came across a discussion here (How to tell if PSU is failing?) . In that thread is a recommendation of downloading "Speccy" and chekcing the "rail voltage". I have downloaded Speccy and the only thing I can see on there about voltage does not actually say anything that I understand (sorry). Can anyone tell me if these numbers tell a story? Voltage
CPU CORE 0.944 V
MEMORY CONTROLLER 1.032 V
AVCC 3.440 V
3VCC 3.424 V
VIN4 1.000 V
VIN6 0.984 V
Many thanks.

So sorry, I have no idea what fat 16 fat 32 is? The drive is a Verbatim 8gb if that helps?
Re the cable:It is an 18 pin DVI cable.

Ok, it is FAT 32 so should have been able to run however it did not. I watched the tutorial and with the exception of the bios bit, everything else was the same as what I did.

It seems as though the memtest is on the drive properly but when I pressed f8 and the option came up asking me where to boot from, there were 4 options, 2 of which were the Verbatim drive.

I did the first one - it came up with a black screen with some text and a prompt wanting me to typ in something. I tried typing "e:" but it said something about the kernel image not being found.

I restarted the pc and chose the 2nd Verbatim option which started up the pc as normal and did not run anything.

did you plug in the verbatim into a blue usb 3.0 port?
be sure it´s plugged into a USB2.0 port

edit:
do not use something like "UEFI: verbatim" boot option

use a smaller usb thumb drive if possible
manually extract the zip file to the desktop, the install file should be there now as exe. install and try booting again

what text when booting from stick?

I got it to run. I know what I was doing wrong now but I won't tell you so that I don't embarrass myself more than necessary. 😉

I was not sure how long to let it run so I let it go for 5 passes and there were 0 errors so I am guessing all is well with that.

I used the add/remove programs thing to "repair" Microsoft essentials so that my email would work again and unbelievably it worked! I can once again get to my emails.

I have not been able to figure out why the "appearance" has changed.

I will run IE through this evening and see if the crashing continues.

THANK YOU for persevering. :)

Oh dear...Emails are now not working again, it won't close down and the layout is all wonky. I thought about trying the system restore option and I received this message: "System Resore does not appear to be functioning correctly on this system. A volume shadow copy service component encountered an unexpected error. Check the application event log for more information. (0x80042302)"

Should I give up or keep trying?
