What about offering an ageing player to become a coach at the club?

I'd love to have kept Zola on in my game as a coach - but he didn't even
go on to get his coaching award!

Has anyone managed to get a player to become a coach?

Cheers

Tobes

I've had 3 in my Chelsea game at the end of season2 in FM2005: Alan Sherear,
Tsiartis (Greek AMLC) and some Turkish guy, though they all still want
player type wages (Shearer wants £60K to be a physio).

Zola didn't become a coach in my game either. Maybe it's predetermined
if a player becomes a coach/scout ?

Dunno about FM, but in earlier incarnations of CM it was random.
According to a post by MarcV, anyway (in response to me asking the
question here in the group).

In 0304, yes. Four the last time I checked. They were all transitioned from player to
coach/asst.man while still at the club. Also shortlisted any retirees with non-playing ability
for future reference (read: raiding).

However, in the case of the CM4s, be certain that when you give a coaching contract WHILE the
player is still eligibile as playing staff, you choose 'Player/Coach/asst.man' and not only
'coach' or he will still be drawing a higher salary as player *but* cannot play, only coach. He
will simply disappear from the playing staff. Do not know if this is fixed in FM.
Sometimes also, retirees can have coaching abilities but until they fully transition to
non-player only, the attribs shown are not real. They are place holders. At times, someone with
excellent attribs as coaches get to be 'regen-ed' as a physio and there is no option to change
him to a coach or scout. Once a physio, always a physio.

Non-playing players are just like they were in CM03/04 demand unreasonable
wages and still forget any playing information they had (gained languages
and favs) though this is supposed to be fixed for the patch.

You know why. It is because they do not get transitioned directly from a player to a non-player
role but rather have a retired non-player get reincarnated into their ikky bodies. It's been
like this since CM2s. Nothing's changed. And a non-player is separate from the player even when
he is the same person - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Yes, I got Lillestrøms goali Misund as a player/coach in my Rosenborg team.
