Hey guys, i have a problem and i hope you can somehow help me with it.
This was my PC:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3
CPU: Intel Quad Q9550 2.8Ghz
GPU: Zotac Geforce GTX 570 Amp! Edition
Memory: Transcend aXeRam DDR2 4GB 1066mhz (2x2GB) Kit
I OCed the CPU up to 3.82Ghz and RAM was working at 800, 5-5-5-15 i think and things were ok for a while. Then suddenly one day i turn on the PC and it starts to beep, there were always 23 beeps then it restarted and it wouldn't post. I look up the beep codes online with my laptop and find out that the beeps for my bios (AWARD Bios) ment that there's a RAM problem. So i take out the battery and reset the bios. The PC declocked itself back to original settings and i just leave it at that out of fear that it would screw the PC up even more. So everything is working on default again for some time. Then one day the exact same thing happens. The PC starts beeping with a ram problem on startup. I take out the 2 memory sticks and try different slots, nothing. Try bios reset, nothing. Try only 1 ram stick (2GB) in slot one, it works!! Then i have my PC run 2GB of ram for some time and one day again...even with 2GB it won't post...those beeps again. So i try everything i can think of and decide to switch my RAM with my friend's. I give my RAM to my friend, he gives me his 8GB (4x2GB) DDR2 800mhz Corsair. I have him run the memtest on his PC with my RAM, no errors. My ram works fine on his PC. I insert 8GB of his ram (Mobo supports up to 8GB) and the beeps again. I insert only 4GB, beeps again. I insert only 2GB...it works....i reset bios again with battery out. Insert 4GB again...works again.
After finally getting it to accept 4GB of ram i notice constant scratching sound coming from the speakers whenever my PC is loading or my hard drive is installing stuff. My games keep crashing from time to time and giving me display driver has stopped working error although my GPU is just 1 year old and i even declocked it and it runs Haven benchmark like 10 times just fine. The crashing was happening on my older gpu Radeon HD 5950 also. Then i switched to GTX 570, same thing.
I'll do some more tests with Prime95 tomorrow and also will reinstall windows again but i don't think the CPU is the problem..or the GPU cause it's practically new. I've had this mobo for a long time, maybe something fried when i was OCing it....the bus voltages and so on.
Is it possible it's a faulty RAM slot and PCI-E slot ?
I just want to be sure it's the mobo so i can replace it...don't want to go on buying a new one and then all this happens all over again.
What do you guys thinhk ?
And sorry for the long post
