Possible Motherboard Short Circuit

Led Strip is the King Win 24 Inch led kit. (off-brand I think). Plugged the end of it into the PSU SATA power cables as required, and the other end into the led pins at bottom of the motherboard. Both were fours pins, but there weren't supposed to go there(led only needed to be connected to the SATA power) and it essentially it put the SATA power into the motherboard. Immediately a spark appeared along with some gas and I immediately turned it off. Led works fine now along with motherboard. No damage is seen on LEDs or pins, no burn marks, etc. Whats Going On? my theory is that that much power entering a small led pin usually not allocating a lot of electricity caused some error.
