I've been experiencing random shut downs over the past month and they are happening more and more.
My set up is
built in the end of 2013
i7 4770k @ stock 3.5(was 4.3 but due to shut downs, I went back to stock)
Corsair H100i for CPU cooling
ASrock z87 OC
8GB of Crucial Ballistix tactical DDR3 1866 (4Gb sticks)
two way SLI 780TI EVGA @ stock (03G-P4-2881-KR, I also run Nvida Surround @ 5760x1080)
1050w Seasonic X-1050
I use my comp for everything school, work and gaming. The computer has been fine while under normal load like school work and web browsing. The computer would run fine for days except when I put load on it.
Starts a month ago:
When Fallout 4 came out my computer started to do random shutdowns and restart. I was playing the game near max @ 5760x1080. Since the game didn't have any native support for Surround and had to do some modding myself I just figured it was the game, since it worked fine in 1920x1080.
Pass week/ Today:
So I start playing World of Warcraft again and I start shutting down again. Now it's shut down wait a few minutes unplug and then the comp will turn back on. It's WoW this game isn't graphic intense at all so I know something has to be wrong. So I start running test.
Testing:
Using Gpuid HWmonitor all Volts look well within range.
Memtest did 8 passes with all cores no errors,
prime95 No problems temps around 60c
FurMark with SLI and 5760x1080 comp dies within two seconds of the start of the test.
At this point im thinking its probably my GPU
So I go back and run Furmark with 780ti(1) at 1920x1080 runs for 15mins no problem temps 68c
Run Furmark with 780Ti(2) at 1920x1080 runs for 15mins no problems temp 70c
So both cards are fine... then why did it fail? I thought maybe the res was to high so I ran two more separate test both cards running 5760x1080 across three screens and both no problems 15mins temps 72c
Then I redo SLI and run at 1920x1080 with one screen and it makes it 10mins and then the comp shuts down.
Event view is showing Kernel-Power Event ID 41, Bugcheck Code 0 . I have 12 of these for just today mainly due to my testing and have 21 over the past 7 days.
Thinking it's:
So after all this i'm thinking that my PSU being two years old and under moderate to heavy use most of the time, it just can't handle my SLI GPUs anymore. The only thing that's got me kinda well maybe it's something else is that during the Furmark test I would take an SS at 10 mins. This would cause a slight lag for half a second then continue. Well when the SLI 1920x1080 test fail it was right at the SS mark. The same thing would happen in WoW. After loading the game I could run around no problem but as soon as I would open something(opening something would cause a slight lag) the system would die.
I'm thinking that due to the SS and opening something in game that there is a slight jump or drop in volts so fast I can't get it on any monitoring system before the computer dies.I have no way of swapping the PSU out to test that so I figure do a process of elimination.
I have a ton of video and screenshots of almost anything if you would need more info, but I think it's all there.
So this is why i think my PSU is dying, I just want a second conformation of the same line of thought before I go buy another PSU. Ill RMA this one but I need one in its place. I can't go without a comp for a few weeks.
