Hi, I used to have this:
Amd athlon 64 3200+
2GB Corsair XMS RAM DDr 400
2 nvidia 6800gs's
albatron k8sli mainboard
x-fi platinum soundcard

I just purchased a Amd Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and reformatted my computer.
With my 3200+ I could easliy set my RAM to its default settings which were "400mhz, 2-3-3-6" which is how I bought it. I could even speed up the CPU to 2.4ghz and not have problems.

It seems, with all my voltages at stock, I cannot get my 4200+ to run at stock (2.2ghz), with the ram at "400mhz 2-3-3-6" it works fine at 2.5-3-3-7 but that is not what I paid for.

It works fine at 2.5-3-3-7 333mhz and 400mhz, but for some reason will not go to 400mhz 2-3-3-6 which is how it is supposed to be.
I also tried increasing the RAM voltage from 2.7v to 2.8, no luck.

Also, when I try to set it to 400mhz 2-3-3-6, before I am able to logon, or about 3 seconds after I logon, my computer restarted, no BSOD, just a plain old restart, as though it died.
I looked in my event viewer, incase you are wondering here are a couple of the errors:
Error code 0000004e, parameter1 0000008f, parameter2 000284f2, parameter3 000294f2, parameter4 00000000.

Error code 000000c2, parameter1 00000007, parameter2 00000cd4, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 8702ba28.

EDIT: it IS NOT stable at 400mhz 2.5-3-3-7. I have brought it down to 333mhz 2.5-3-3-7 until I can solve this.

Any ideas or input? Thanks in advance.

Hmmm...Odd. Memory not performing up to speed after a CPU change. I can only attribute this to the X2's onboard memory controller. Maybe when they put the cores together they had to change the controller and they might've changed some settings that are stopping you from getting what you paid for.

Don't think this it is at all, but it never hurts to try: Clean the contacts on the RAM and blow into the socket. Reseat it. Any change?

Hmm..Correct me if I am wrong, but AMD processor's multipliers are unlocked downward, right?

Meaning you could bring the 11x multiplier on the 4200+ down to 10x, making it a X2 3800. Try that and up your FSB, with a mem divider to keep it at DDR400. Any thing?

Did you ever test the memory with memtest using the old CPU and did you overclock with that CPU? I only ask because perhaps the problem has always been there and the new faster CPU reveals it. Slim...but you never know.

Also, do you have the latest BIOS installed on your board.

with the ram at "400mhz 2-3-3-6" it works fine at 2.5-3-3-7 but that is not what I paid for
I'm not sure people get what they pay for when Corsair is concerned. Don't feel bad. I'm one of those people "who didn't get what they paid for" either.
