Question Possible shorted GPU

Hello, I am a new user and would like to ask about a possible GPU issue.

I have a custom built pc mainly used for gaming. About a month and half ago, it started randomly rebooting, seemingly for no reason or error codes. The reboots became more frequent and then it just would not power up at all (this happened in the span of about 2-3 days).

I searched online and consulted a friend (not having in-depth knowledge of computer issues myself, the pc was built by someone picking parts and me assembling them), and we suspected a PSU issue. However, after replacing the PSU with a brand new one, I still could not boot the pc.

My friend then suggested that it may be a GPU issue and told me to try connecting the monitor to the integrated graphics, which worked.

In short, the pc works fine with integrated graphics (apart from performance in demanding games), however it does not even boot if the monitor cable is connecred to the GPU, which seems to indicate a shorted GPU. I am thinking of taking it to an expert, but is there any way to determine the health of the GPU at home?

Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-8400, 2,8 GHz.
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070.
(Sorry for not providing more detailed specs, however I am on vacation away from said pc. I will return there in a couple of days, so I can provide more details then, if necessary).

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list them like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:

Include the age of the PSU, apart from it's make and model. Has the card been used for mining?

Sigh.
