Possible to Cut PCIe Bracket?

Firstly, aren't PCIe and PCI brackets both the same thing?

I need to cut a standard PCI bracket to accomodate an older PCIe card that comes with a low profile/half height bracket. I cannot find any standard height brackets that match this card on eBay or anywhere else. Even if I did, they'd cost more than the darn PCIe card!

Is it possible to cut the necessary hole in a bracket? If so, what tool would I use, a dremel tool? I've never used one, can anyone tell me how I would get started?

Thanks

Yeah. Sorry. I did misunderstand what you were attempting to do.

Yes, the mounting brackets for PCI and PCIe expansion cards are identical. They have to conform to the case expansion slots. How to go about creating a custom one, I don't know.

First off, PCI Express (PCIe) is the newer standard. PCI and PCIe are NOT compatible. The brackets for cards (attaching to the case) are card specific. Mixing and matching may work, but probably not. What exactly is it you are trying to accomplish? What card are you working with?

Sorry, that's not what I mean. If I wanted a plain (replacement) bracket or cover plate, are the PCI and PCIe brackets the same thing? I realize there are different lengths - standard and low profile, but other than that aren't they the same?

My problem is that I can't find a standard height bracket to fit an old PCIe card that comes with a low profile bracket. So I'm going to have to cut and modify a bracket to fit. I'm wondering how to go about doing that.
