Hello folks, just curious,

For the social media like Facebook and Instagram, would there be any plugin, settings or app that would be able to filter the social media for a particular item, in my profile? That is, when I browse my profile page or get a link and open it, while it will take me to my social media page to view the link's content. When this happens, I will be tempted to swipe to a few other pages. This would be where I would like to have my profile filtered; if possible. I don't like to see snakes. With modern technology, I would think that I would be able to.

Cheers

I don't quite get what you're asking. 🤔

Are you asking ways to change the content that is displayed to you, when you swipe around?
(I take that you're using mobile, since on PC, one can't "swipe" in FB or Instagram.)

Don't know how it is on mobile, but on desktop and in FB, one can hide the posts they do not want to see. By this, FB then learns what kind of content you don't want to see and won't give as much. But completely block specific content - that requires altering entire platform, which end user can not do.

I am a human who has a serious phobia for snakes, just like some people have serious phobia for other things.
Just when I go to the social median, usually on my phone, and keep swiping, I see some. Guess my only option would be to stop, cover the page with a piece of paper, swipe back and select "Not Interested" to see if the algorithms would control seeing them.

@caxtin

Might have the reverse effect.

Even "not interested" indicates page activity and, knowing the page contents, the sources may send more such pictures no matter what all is or was on the page.

Simply ignore the pages as best you can.

Many people have snake phobia's to varying degrees. I am not and never have been one but have known people who are.

Address the problem directly - do not rely on software/technology....

Find someone to talk and work with to alleviate the phobia. Simply learning more about snakes can make a big difference. Perhaps you have tried that - try again.

Learn about the snakes in your area - simply being able know the difference between "harmless" and "avoid - leave alone" has helped many folks.

Your post drew my attention because of a little "first aid" project I was working on just last week. Will not creep you out with the details. However; I learned that many things we were taught years ago have proven not only to be wrong but outright dangerous.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Well, at least for me, in FB and on PC, when i select "Not Interested", FB tells me that it will start showing less of that non-interested content for me. And thus far, stuff that i've hidden, hasn't appeared any more for me.
Then again, i live in EU and maybe for EU, FB actually does what it says, due to strict EU laws. How it is in other parts of the word, that i do not know.

Either try the Not Interested option, or don't use the social media platform at all, where you know that kind of content is present.

Well, yeah, you're human. I doubt that AI would discuss it with us here (but you never know 🤔 ).

As for phobias, there is no social media profile filter for users to completely restrict something based on the phobia they have. Because there are a plethora of different phobias out there. Fear of men, fear of women, fear of cars, fear of grass etc etc. Essentially everything you can think of - there's phobia for that. There is even phobia of having a phobia.

I, personally, don't do well higher than ground level. When i'm on the ledge and look down, i get lightheaded. It isn't phobia per se, but i avoid getting myself higher than ground level (or when higher, won't look over the edge downwards).
But my missus does have a phobia, namely she panically fears moths. Specifically giant grey moths (Agrius convolvuli) that are common around here. Every time one flies in during summer nights (because window is open and light is on in the room) and when panic screaming starts and she runs off, i know she had a moth visitor. I then have to help the poor moth back out, while my missus is as far from that room as possible. But she doesn't fear butterflies. Go figure.
